Please remember that the purpose of this newsletter is to keep librarians,
historians, archivists, genealogists, archaeologists, educators at all levels, and
those in other allied fields informed of what is going on that may be helpful in
these fields so they may pass this information on to other interested parties in their
locations.
South Texas is being broadly
defined as beginning in Val Verde
County in the west; moving east
to Austin (Travis County); and
then southeast through Caldwell,
Lavaca, Jackson, and Calhoun
counties to the Gulf of Mexico.
I am willing to include important events or acquisitions from other areas, in some
instances, if they may be of particular usefulness to those in our area. News from
our neighboring Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, and Coahuila would
also be welcome.
If you have items you or your organization would like others to know about,
please e-mail the address at the end of this newsletter.

San Antonio's City Archives
Did you know that San Antonio has a City Archives?
Do you know what’s there?
Can it help you in your research?
Join us on Saturday, 3 May 2008 to learn the answers to these questions
and more.
The San Antonio Municipal Archives program began in early 2007 as the first
formal effort to preserve the historical records created by the local government.
Amanda DeFlorio, the City Archivist, will speak about the origins of the program,
current and future preservation efforts, and materials in the archives that may be
of interest to genealogists and historical researchers.

Victoria County Genealogical Seminar
October 4, 2008
The Victoria County Genealogical Society is proud to announce the upcoming
seminar on October 4, 2008 in Victoria, Texas. Our featured speaker will be the
noted Christine Rose, CG, CGL, FASG. Ms. Rose has delivered hundreds of
lectures in a variety of locations. She was on the faculty of the National Institute of
Genealogical Research in Washington, DC and has for many years been an
instructor and coordinator for Samford University in their Institute of Historical and
Genealogical Research. She has also been interviews on a number of television and
radio programs.
An announcement concerning her lecture topics will be released at a later date.
Please reserve October 4, 2008 for a most helpful, interesting and informative
seminar.

Los Bexareños Genealogy Society
Meetings are normally held at 9:30 a.m. every first Saturday of the month on the
first floor, Main Auditorium, of the San Antonio Public Library, 600 Soledad
Street, San Antonio, Texas. Visitors are always welcome to attend. Membership
is not required. Speakers at the meetings are people with a passion for history,
professional historians, genealogists, archaeologists and researchers.

Topic: Archives and Records Available for Research in Monclova, Mexico
(Presentation will be in Spanish)
Juan Blackaller, noted historian and archivist and the Director of the Archivo
Historico de Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico, will speak to us in Spanish on the
archives and records available for research in Monclova. This was a very
important outpost and stopping point on the Camino Real and many of the early
settlers either were stationed there or lived there with their families. Mr.
Blackaller has shown his interest in Los Bexarenos and has already helped to

make some records available to us. We urge your attendance at this event which
will include a power point presentation.

en el año de 1939. Descendiente de JOHN BLACKALLER un Ingeniero Inglés
que llegó a Monclova en 1826 para instalar la primera despepitadora de algodón y
molino de trigo, se quedó a radicar en la ciudad y fundó una dinastía que ahora se
extiende por muchas ciudades de México y de Estados Unidos incluyendo la
ciudad de San Antonio.También descendiente del LIC. POLICARPO
VELARDE, distinguido monclovense del Siglo XIX y miembro de una familia
que llegó a estas tierras por el año 1780.
Participa activamente en casi todas las actividades históricas de la Región y ha
escrito y publicado más de 150 artículos sobre historia tanto Regional como de
México.

Everyone is welcome to attend the next meeting of the San Antonio
Genealogical & Historical Society on Saturday, May 17th, 10:00 a .m. at the
LDS Church in Windcrest, 8801 Midcrown at Crestway.

the Internet. Meetings are free and open to the public. Bring friends! See you

presents a new database featuring BT27 Outward Passenger Lists for longdistance voyages leaving the British Isles from 1890 to 1960. You may search by
