A vision leads toward a worthwhile goal. A vision gives meaning to an effort. A vision is simple. A vision is attainable. A vision can change. Write a vision statement below expressing where you want to be in 18 to 24 months as a Scouting leader. A suggested format is: My Vision: In 18 months, I see myself as a more engaged leader, so that I can lead or coach my group to accomplish or learn more camping and outdoor skills. I see the Pack having more outings planned on the calendar that include the outdoors. I envision the Webelos Dens going camping as dens at least once during the scouting year. Include stations for safety checks, a safety display, activities for the Bicycling Belt Loop and Pin, and other fun cycling-related activities. Finish the activity with a family picnic. Create a pass-down log so that this activity can be repeated in the future. Create an evaluation form and solicit feedback so that we can improve future events. Why: The Pack has not earned the Summertime Award recently because there were not activities scheduled during the summer beyond Day Camp or Webelos camping at Goshen. Having activities for the Pack families to attend during the summer enhances the relationships between the families and keeps the boys active in Scouting. The Bicycling Rodeo provides a July activity for the Pack. One of the Assistant Cubmasters is planning a pool activity in August for the Webelos to work on their Aquanaut Activity Pin and can modify it to make it a Pack event to qualify for the Summertime Award. Who: Webelos Den Leaders in the Pack What: 1. Attend Teaching EDGE (formerly Trainers Development Conference) as recommended for District and Council level trainers. 2. Recruit two current or future Webelos adults to attend OSWL training. 3.Be one of the instructors for the Fall Outdoor Skills for Webelos Leaders (OSWL) course for the Patriot and Old Dominion Districts. Lead one of the modules for the course. Where: Pohick Bay group camping site When: September 12, 2009 How: 1. Attend Teaching EDGE to become a better trainer. 2. Recruit two current or future Webelos adults to attend OSWL training by (a) Recruit Cub Scouters at the Pack Planning Meeting, (b) Recruit Cub Scouters at the Old Dominion District August Rountable so that a sufficient number of participants will attend the course, (c) Work with the Old Dominion District Cub Scout Trainer to promote the course. 3. Be an instructor for the OSWL course. Why: Old Dominion District has not held the OSWL course due to lack of interested instructors. The Patriot District’s spring OSWL course was cancelled due to lack of participants. This course will give Webelos Den Leaders the confidence to plan and execute an outdoor program for the Webelos. This will let the boys experience the Boy Scouts’ outdoor program, which will assist in leading them to continue their journey in Scouting. Who: Cub Scouters in the Pack and Council What: Attend Teaching EGDE (formerly Trainers Development Conference) as recommended for District and Council level trainers. BALOO classes are taught at PowWow by two- and three-person teams. Be a member of one of the teams of instructors to provide BALOO training at Pow-Wow. Where: Pow-Wow at Annandale High School When: Third Saturday in November How: Attend Teaching EDGE to become a better trainer. Recruit two Pack parents to attend BALOO training at Pow-Wow. Be a member of one of the teams of instructors to provide BALOO training at Pow-Wow. Offer to mentor Pack Cub Scouters who attend BALOO. Why: The current BALOO-trained adults in a Pack are parents of the older boys. This will prepare parents of boys of younger ranks to share the load of planning Pack Campouts, which can make it easier for a Pack to hold more than one Pack Campout during the year in the future. How Verified: List of people recruited and names of co-trainers. Who: Pack members What: A Fall Pack Campout at which the Den members work on Badge requirements Where: Prince William Park, Burke Lake Park, or Camp Snyder When: October 16 – 18, 2009 How: Lead a group of Pack adults in planning and executing a Fall Pack Campout. Plan activities for the campout that can be done as a Den, focusing on outdoor skills needed to meet Badge requirements for their level. Plan activities for siblings who attend the campout. Work with the Den Leaders to prepare the boys and their families to participate in the campout. Create a pass-down log so that this activity can be repeated in the future. Create an evaluation form and solicit feedback so that we can improve future events. Why: The Pack currently only holds a Family Campout in the spring. At that time of the year most of the boys have earned the Badge for their level and are working on electives. The spring campout focuses on family activities. The boys do not participate in the activities as a Den. Who: Pack families What: Camping Equipment Expo and Outdoor Orientation Night Where: Immanuel Bible Church campus When: Monday, September 21, 2009 during regular Den meeting time How: Develop a team and lead a program with members of the Boy Scout Troop sponsored by the Pack’s sponsoring organization in setting up a campsite on the meeting grounds. We will use Troop equipment and have the Boy Scouts set up one of the Patrol boxes to display the equipment used for camping. Lead the Den Chiefs in planning the interaction between the Webelos and the Boy Scouts. Invite the Webelos dens and their Den Chiefs to go through the troop equipment and campsite. Lead a group of Pack adults in setting up a variety of family camping gear to cover tent options, sleep system options, and cooking/eating equipment. Have groups of Pack adults move from station to station and discuss/display options for tent options, sleep systems, and cooking/eating equipment. Encourage Pack adults to indicate the types of equipment they would need to acquire or borrow in order to attend a Pack Campout. Also encourage Pack adults to indicate what camping equipment they would have available to loan or share with another family during a Pack Campout. Review the adult supervision requirements for a Cub Scout to participate in a Pack Campout. Create a pass-down log so that this activity can be repeated in the future. Create an evaluation form and solicit feedback so that we can improve future events. Why: Providing examples of lower cost options for personal camping gear can encourage those of lower economic means, including the single parent families, to acquire the items needed to participate in a Pack Campout. Having a list of equipment that they can borrow will allow them to camp at a relatively low cost. How Verified: List of attendees, list of equipment needed and equipment available for loan or sharing, and event evaluations.
