PNW Welcome Letter to New Family Foundation Members

advertisement
Dear Xxxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx:
It gives me great pleasure to report that Philanthropy Northwest has formally approved
Xxxxxxxx Family Foundation’s application for membership! As a regional funder, we
look forward to your involvement in this regional association of grantmakers—and
utilizing the services and programs available to the philanthropic community.
Enclosed are materials to help you and others with Xxxxxxxx Family Foundation become
better acquainted with Philanthropy Northwest.
Philanthropy Northwest Member Benefits Booklet
This booklet outlines the various direct member benefits received by joining Philanthropy
Northwest, as well as the avenues for access to Philanthropy Northwest staff.
On-line Member Directory
The Philanthropy Northwest On-line Member Directory—which we sell to the public—
enables grantseekers to learn about potential funders. Our directory helps you, as a
grantmaker, receive appropriate proposals, resulting in less time spent on inappropriate
requests. Philanthropy Northwest members are encouraged to use the on-line directory as
a resource for contacting colleagues as well as identifying potential funding partners.
Along with your complimentary on-line subscription, I have enclosed a printed version of
the directory. Grantmakers are encouraged to promote this subscription service to the
grantseeking community.
Informational Survey
A strong association maintains accurate data. To produce the member directory that we
sell to grantseekers; the survey on members’ giving, which helps policymakers better
understand the capacity of private funding in our region, and to accurately send member
announcements, we collect information from our members on an annual basis. Enclosed
you will find a survey for your foundation. Please complete and return the
document at your earliest convenience.
Philanthropy Northwest Member’s Principles for Effective Grantmaking
In 1995, a group of members developed a set of principles as a guide for effective
grantmaking. These principles are one way we meet our organization’s mission to
promote effective philanthropy among Northwest grantmakers.
Volunteer Interest Form
Thanks to volunteer committee members, Philanthropy Northwest is relevant and
forward-thinking! Without volunteers, Philanthropy Northwest could not function. A
sign-up form describing the various opportunities is enclosed. We strive for regional
participation and encourage teleconferencing.
Member Briefing Information Sheet
Philanthropy Northwest works to meet the programming and educational needs of a
diverse group of members. Through “Member Briefings” we assist members who design
and host programs on topics of their choice. Three members or more gather to “sponsor”
a session on virtually any issue of interest. Philanthropy Northwest staff helps by
promoting the session and finalizing logistics for the meeting.
Survey of Philanthropy Northwest Members’ Giving Profile
This biennial publication allows grantmakers, policymakers, and the general public to see
how the aggregate of our members’ giving benefits the Northwest states. A new edition
using 2003-2004 data will be available in early 2006.
The Philanthropy Northwest Common Grant Application Form
This form was designed to allow members to adopt a common application procedure with
peers and to participate in a project designed to simplify the application process for
grantseekers. If you think you might be interested in accepting this form, contact us for
further instructions. Currently about 25 members use or accept the Philanthropy
Northwest Common Grant Application form.
We look forward to your participation in Philanthropy Northwest! If you have any other
questions about Philanthropy Northwest activities, please call. We are happy to help you
in any way we can. Welcome to Philanthropy Northwestcreating stronger communities
through effective philanthropy.
Sincerely,
