Miss Wong’s Sixth We’re busy at working up until the start of the “new” year. The kids looked quite relaxed from the one-week Thanksgiving Break. I think some might be coming off the effects of the turkey – just kidding. Others are back to their usual selves, with lots of energy. The new trimester started just a few short weeks ago, please remind students of their new found short- and long-term goals to academic success. I’m sure many have decided for themselves why and how they were going to continue their success or make some improvements over the course of this second trimester. I have seen huge improvements from several kids in regards to their focus and attention during class. Others will need a gentle reminder of their goals and how to achieve them this trimester. Progress reports will be handed out the week we get back from Winter Break. I know it seems like the first trimester just ended, however, the second trimester started Nov. 10th. Soon after we get back from the holiday break, the second trimester will end on January 30th. So let’s make sure students are focused, determined, and bound for success for at school and home. Z Oral biography book reports will start next week. Students will sign-up for a presentation date tomorrow. There is plenty of time to utilize the weekend to perfect their speeches in first person. All the necessary requirements are listed on the rubric given to the students before Thanksgiving break. If you were wondering for yourself what the requirements entail please refer to my classroom website, and click on the link for the rubric. Please help your child by being his or her audience and giving precise constructive criticism. Tech Museum On Dec. 16th we’ll be off for a fun-filled day at the Tech Museum in San Jose to see a special exhibit on Leonardo di Vinci: 500 Years into the Future. The exhibit is made up of two parts: The Renaissance Engineers and The Grade Newsletter mind of Leonardo. We’ll be attending a special session about Leonardo’s creations, have lunch, and then explore the exhibits throughout the Tech Museum with emphasis on the Leonardo exhibits. We hope you’ll be able to join us and chaperone and/or drive for this field trip. We’re short a few seats as of right now. This will be a limited opportunity to see the works of Leonardo. Aside from spending time with your child and see his/her horizons broaden, you will also be able to see the amazements of the exhibits yourself. We are getting close to having online grades again. Keep your fingers cross with me, I am hoping for access codes to be given out next week. Thank you very much for the generous donations. I know with the holidays coming around, the numerous costs of being a parent of a sixth grader, and the uncertainties of the economy it’s often difficult to make additional donations. Your generosity is much appreciated. I’ve received 14 family donations. If you are interested in donating towards this program, please send $7 to school with your child or in his/her Wolf Folder.
