Straight Average Calculation for a Grade Book using Points or Percentages
1) Calculate the student’s percentage as follows:
Percent = ((Sum(Mark * Assignment Weight)) / (Sum(Assignment Points * Assignment Weight))) * 100

2) Convert the student’s percentage to a letter grade:
a) Using the grading scale, find the Percent Range for their average. (ex. A student with an
92.14% average falls within the 90 – 100 range)
b) Get the corresponding mark for the range.

Notes:
If a student’s average is higher than the highest Ending % Range, they will receive the mark with the
highest Point Value.
The system will first look for a grading scale for the school and grade level for the class. If none is found,
it will look for a grading scale for the grade level. If none is found, it will look for a scale for the school.
Finally if no match is found, it use the district scale.

1) Translate the student’s marks to points using the point value in the mark list. (Use the mark type that
has been chosen for the assignment type of the assignment.)

Note: If an assignment is marked as missing, the system will use the lowest point value in the mark list.
If the assignment mark is blank, it will not be used. Assignment and assignment marks that have been
