As a young man, Francis was very wealthy and
enjoyed the pleasures of life. When he got sick,
he felt God was calling him to live as Jesus did
so he began to do helpful things for other
people. He taught people about peace and
unity. He said, “All the things God created are
like our brothers and sisters.” He believed all
people, animals, and plants live together in
unity. For you to be like St. Francis of Assisi,
you should be helpful to everyone including
your family, teachers, and fellow students.
Did you know?
In 1789, after his
inauguration, President
George Washington
proclaimed a national day
of thanksgiving for the new
country. For many years
after that, each state chose
its own day to celebrate.
But in 1863, during the
midst of our country’s Civil War, President
Abraham Lincoln proclaimed the fourth
Thursday of November as the official
Thanksgiving Day for the entire nation.
Welcome to our new Faculty and Staff
Members!
Frank Burns – Physical Education Teacher, is a member of
St. Joseph Church. He and his wife Tracy have three
children, Meghan – a junior at the College of William &
Mary, Connor – a senior at Central Catholic, and Ryan
Margaret, a freshman at Central Catholic. Mr. Burns has
been involved at St. Michael the Archangel School for
many years since Meghan, Connor, and Ryan Margaret
attended here! He has been a CYO coach and has served as
a Home and School and CYO Board Member. He enjoys
vacationing in the Outer Banks with his family, playing
basketball, and cheering on the Philadelphia sports teams!
Mary Ellen Kitchen – Librarian, has been a part of St.
Michael the Archangel School for many years. In fact,
some of this year’s sixth graders were in the preschool class
when she was the teacher’s aide. They were only 4 years
old! She is the proud mother of three boys, Patrick – a
freshman at West Chester University, Ryan – a junior at
Central Catholic, and Sean – an eighth grader here at St.
Michael’s. Mrs. Kitchen is a former Jersey girl married to a
Pennsylvania guy, Alan, for almost 25 years. In her spare
time she likes to read, do crafts, and go antiquing and thrift
store shopping. The Kitchen’s have two pets, a book eating
dog named Bear and Patches, a cat who thinks she is a dog!
Yanira Santiago de Rosado – Colesville Spanish Teacher, is
married to Juan and they have two girls, Claudia (9) and
Victoria (6). Mrs. Rosado and her family moved to the
Lehigh Valley from Caguas, Puerto Rico just last year. On
weekends you will find her at her daughters’ soccer games,
Girl Scout activities, or riding bikes. Her family enjoys the
beach. She is looking forward to a great year!
Maria Vidal – Limeport Spanish Teacher, was born in
Venezuela and moved to the United States 22 years ago.
She and her husband Tony have seven children – all
currently attending or alumni of St. Michael the Archangel
School! They are Anthony – 19, Ana Maria – 17, Alexandra
– 15, Jacqueline – 13, Michael – 11, Jacques – 9, and Elena –
6. Mrs. Vidal enjoys the challenges of raising a large
family. She says, “every home chore becomes a joy when
offered up to God and when you do it as a team with so
many helping hands”. She enjoys dancing, singing,
painting, and reading…and, of course, babies! She is
touched by the warm welcome she gets from her students
and the enthusiasm they show for learning Spanish.
Joanne Villani – Art Teacher, is looking forward to a great
year with the students at St. Michael’s. She also teaches art
at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Bethlehem. Ms.
Villani enjoys spending time with her two grown children
who live in the Baltimore and Pittsburgh areas. She enjoys
being outdoors, working in the yard, walking, and nature.
During the summer months she enjoys taking sight seeing
trips and trips to the beach.

REMINDER TO DRIVERS…
All drivers to the schools are reminded of the
following law related to parking near a school
building:
“By law, the entire perimeter of our school
buildings has been designated as a FIRE
LANE. Due to fire and security issues, our
Diocesan insurance carrier has advised us to
enforce the directive that no vehicles, attended
or unattended, are permitted to park around the
school building at any time. All vehicles must
be parked in a regulation parking space.”
For the Limeport facility, Father Buckley has
designated a parking space in the lower parking
lot for parents to park when dropping off or
picking up students.
For the Colesville facility, visitors are asked to
park in the lot between the church and the
school.

Adopt-A-Highway
Program!
Thank you to our team of
students and parents who
collected 12 bags of trash during
the highway cleanup on Saturday, October 4.
Our student crew members were Austin Boty,
Sidney Boty, Sirma Bubernack, Merjan
Bubernack, Ian Greenland, and Wesley Hurst.
Parent volunteers were Sandra Boty, Carolyn
Greenland, Mike Bubernack, Mary Hurst, and
Bob Spehalski. The weather was pleasant with
only a slight, occasional drizzle. Please contact
Mrs. Spehalski at (610) 867-8422, Ext. 12, or
spehalski@st-mikes.com if you are interested in
helping out next time.
INTERNATIONAL
DAY…
What a fantastic festival of
viewing artifacts and sampling foods from
all around the world! Special thanks to
our many volunteers for their time,
talents, and donations to make this day
such a success! Our third through eighth
grade students genuinely enjoyed the
wide array of foods and desserts not to
mention the entertaining storytellers,
Kristin Pedemonti and Lisa Facciponti,
who managed to get Mrs. Bosak to eat a
fried meal worm! Students also had fun
at the “Carnival for the Nations” where
games were played to benefit the mission
countries and inspire missionary spirit.
All proceeds will be given to Holy
Childhood Association, the Catholic
Church’s missionary organization for
children and youth helping children and
youth. Special thanks to Mrs. Kathy
Fidati, Mrs. Suzy Linden, and Mrs.
Jeanine Faust for their efforts in
coordinating this enjoyable, educational
day. We all look forward to next year’s
celebration!
Special thanks…!

WOW! The Walkinators walked all over the 2008
Lehigh Valley “Walk to Defeat ALS” on Saturday,
October 11.
We had an enthusiastic team of
approximately 70 family and friends came out to
Lehigh Valley College on a beautiful, sunny Saturday
morning. Thanks to the fantastic response from St.
Mike’s parents and students, we not only had a much
bigger (and louder!) team this year, but we also
exceeded our goal of raising $2,000! Ken would have
loved the excitement and positive vibe of it all… Justin
and his friends walking backwards, Gemma and her
friends doing very loud walkinators’ cheers, dogs
walking some of the moms (yes, you read that
correctly), and whole families walking together… It
was a great day!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and the soles
of our feet!
