Abstract:
In this paper we will briefly present Imagine and introduce Magic Forest and Dragon & Cia as TELE
(Technological Enhanced Learning Environments), by constructing narratives and games. Imagine [7]
is a new kind of integrated educational software, comprising a richly connected and layered set of tools
and frameworks, designed to integrate with and extend all areas of learning. It can be used by pupils of
all ages and abilities. It is a modern computational system for learning with ambitions to support and
stimulate emergence of new cultures of constructing, exploring and understanding. We will give some
examples of its narrative use by children on Portuguese schools. Magic Forest is intended to be a
simple and powerful environment for young children (4 to 8) to build games by expressing rules.
Magic Forest is an outcome of the Playground Project (http://www.ioe.ac.uk/playground). Easy and
strict forward, the whole interface was built in a co-design process with learners, and has a professional
and funny look. Dragon & Cia is a microworld for young aged 9–14 years old and above, built in
Imagine, as a new evolution of Magic Forest, pushing the original idea to new levels for older children.
Magic Forest and Dragon & Cia use the same engine, named as Pathways in several scientific papers.
