Acquire and implement strategies for establishing a 6 traits writing program at MVMS
Gain insight into current writing programs.
Lead the seventh grade humanities team in 6 traits writing.
Work with the already established 6 traits writing leaders at MVMS.
Attend 6 traits writing conference in Anaheim October 26- 28, 2005.
Attend “Habits of Highly Effective Writing Teachers” Sept. 17-Oct. 22, 2005.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH ACTIVITIES (Including Timeline)
Acquiring New Learning Activities:
1.
Six Saturday morning "Habits of highly effective writing teachers" workshop ( 24 hours)
2.
Three day "6 traits writing conference" in Anaheim, Oct. 26-28 ( 24 hours)
3.
Seventh grade writing leader for 6 traits at MVMS ( 9 one-hour morning meetings plus rubric creation, lesson plans for team, etc.)
4.
Read and reflect on 6+1 Traits of Writing by Ruth Culham ( 8 hours)
Classroom Implementation Activities:
1.
“6 traits to-go” packets ( 10+ hours)
Packets will be made for each trait to accommodate the different designated subject areas.
In each “Traits To-Go” packet:
Picture book
8 1/2 x 11 placard with specific trait outlined for classroom display
