It was wonderful to see so many of you supporting the pupils. Thank you to everyone who dressed up spotty and gave a donation to Children in Need. With your help we raised £210.15 for the charity. Year 5 and 6 Homework Reminder From this term onwards, pupils in Years 5 and 6 will receive at least one piece of maths and literacy homework each week. Topic homework may also be sent home on occasions. It is a statutory requirement for pupils in Key Stage 2 to complete homework in order to further their knowledge and understanding and consolidate the week’s work, up to 2.5hrs per week by Year 6. Therefore, we would appreciate parental support with the completion of homework and returning it to school on time. If pupils fail to complete their homework, they will be required to do it during their break and/or lunch time. Having difficulty with homework will not be an acceptable reason for failing to complete it as teachers are available during lunch times for further explanation and support. We thank you in advance for your support with this. The Year 5/6 Team Hijab and Dupatta Please be aware that pupils wearing these items to school should wear the colours of the school uniform, that is dark blue, white, grey or black. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Wanted! Someone like you!! Do you make a difference? Are you a decision maker? Have you got the odd day to spare? People like you are needed to sit on the school appeals and exclusions panel. So if you are interested please call 01865 810 180 or email schoolappeals@oxfordshire.gov.uk Coffee Morning We would like to warmly invite you to our coffee mornings which take place every Friday from 9.10am to 10.30am in the Early Years building. Please feel free to bring your younger children with you. Everyone is welcome. Entrance is through the main gate next to Early Years. Come in, turn right through big gate & wait under cover It is your chance to ask any questions you may have, chat to other parents/carers and find out what else is going on in the community. Playground Please can we ask you to not allow your children to use the playground climbing equipment before school, especially during the wintery weather. When the climbing equipment is frosty or damp, it is a major health and safety concern and we do not want a child to injure themselves. Arrival At School Although we welcome the children coming to school we do not want them to arrive too early as staff are not available to supervise them before the start of the official school day, unless they attend the Breakfast Club. Children in Years 1 to 6 should arrive and be in their classroom for 8.50am. Children in Early Years should arrive at their classroom for 9.00am. Cycle Theft A postcode marked bicycle is more difficult for a thief to sell on and is much less likely to get stolen. If a marked bike does get stolen, the police are then able to return the bike to its owner. Thames Valley Police provide a free bicycle marking service. Finally, I have some sad news to share with you concerning Roy Whittingham Roy Whittingham, who was Headteacher of Bayswater Middle School when it was on our current on our site, has sadly passed away. Mr Whittingham was an inspiring and influential Headteacher who guided the school during the change from a Secondary School to a Middle School in the early 1970’s, and then as a Middle School into the 1980’s. Mr Whittingham was warmly and highly regarded by all who knew him and his contribution to education enormous. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family. Yours sincerely Keith Ponsford Headteacher HEADINGTON PARTNERSHIP EXTENDED SERVICES CHRISTMAS LIGHT NIGHT Friday 26 November all around central Oxford wrap up warm to come and celebrate the arrival of the Christmas season in Oxford with a buzzing evening of processions, lights, dance, art, live music and street performance, all thrown together with a generous helping of festive cheer! it starts with the children’s lantern procession through the streets from Bonn Square at 6.15 pm via Queen Street, Cornmarket, Market Street, Broad Street, Turl Street, Ship Street, Cornmarket, Queen Street and back to Bonn Square.
