The successful candidate must be dedicated to serving students of varying skill levels and will be responsible for teaching state mandated curriculum in the class offerings. Successful Psychiatric Technician Program course completion will make the student eligible to take the licensure examination from the California State Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Selected teaching candidate will be responsible for developing and adapting curriculum consistent with state regulations. Instructional methods will incorporate current technology and pedagogy including the use of computer technology in the classroom. Instructional delivery may include the development of non-traditional approaches such as telecourses or two-way video. Additional responsibilities include involvement in department activities, advising, developing and reviewing curriculum consistent with the needs of the diverse backgrounds and abilities of our students and work with other faculty on literacy and interdisciplinary issues. The successful candidate should expect to teach at any of the district sites and/or clinical sites as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruct community college lectures, lab, and clinical activities to a diverse student population. Assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies, informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions. ABOUT THE POSITION: Teach classes in the Psychiatric Technician Program and related areas as assigned, which may require traveling among the District’s sites or clinical sites. Teach courses consistent with the adopted course outline. Advise and assist students. Plan, develop and articulate courses within the instructional area. Coordinate instruction with other faculty. Participate in curriculum design, review and evaluation, program review and other departmental activities including accreditation. Participate in activities with high school programs such as Tech Prep and other activities. Assume supplementary faculty responsibilities such as participation in faculty, department and college committees, hold regular office hours, assist in budget preparation, and participate in staff development activities. Commit to professional excellence by remaining current in the subject matter and techniques of effective instruction through participation in professional development programs in areas such as multimedia in the classroom, learning communities, school-to-work initiatives and other new technologies that may affect the teaching discipline. Implement contemporary teaching methods and technologies; incorporate the use of technology in performing instructional and non-instructional duties including distance education technologies, on-line class delivery, computerized and multi-media presentation, Microsoft Office Suite, and District management information system (Datatel). Bilingual preferred (but not required). Perform all other related duties as assigned DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES: ABOUT THE POSITION: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to implement contemporary and current educational technology methods and tools. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development through memberships in regional, state, and national organizations or other activities appropriate to the discipline or assignment. Ability to communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community organizations. Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of community college students. Ability to develop curriculum in the discipline. Successful teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level. Experience with computer-assisted instruction. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SALARY RANGE: 1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background of community college students. 2. Any Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience as an RN or Psych Tech, OR any Associate degree and six years of experience as an RN or Psych Tech, OR the equivalent, AND completion of, or current enrollment in, an academic course in teaching, AND must be a California Registered Nurse or Psychiatric Technician in addition to one of the above criterion. 3.
