[Date] Senator Senate Office Building Washington, DC 20510 Dear Senator, Global warming represents a challenge to our state, our region, and the world. The Global Warming Solutions Act can help make deep reductions in heat-trapping emissions and protect us from the most dangerous consequences of global warming. A new report by the Northeast Climate Impacts Assessment illustrates the importance of making smart choices now to reduce our region’s global warming pollution and the cost of inaction on the Northeast’s health, economy, and natural resources. Without urgent action today, Massachusetts could face: 1. more than 60 days per year over 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Boston, with 24 of those topping 100 degrees. 2. the loss of the Cod population in the historically important fishing ground of Georges Bank and 3. sea-level rise of 10 inches to 2 feet by end of the century, increasing the frequency and severity of damaging storm surges, and harming the state’s coastal communities, infrastructure, transportation systems, industry and critical coastal wetlands and wildlife habitats. However, significant and sustained action can dramatically decrease the impact of global warming. As a national and international leader on energy conservation and environmental stewardship efforts, Massachusetts can continue to take the lead in reducing global warming pollution by enacting this legislation. I urge you to support the passage of S.534, the Global Warming Solutions Act sponsored by Senator Pacheco. Sincerely,
