The following aspects were discussed: New Math in the SON: Sample, 40 X 10 = 931 The Process: dissolving 40 faculty-facilitated small groups of Level 3 students, approximately 10 students per group, into 4 large classes, 4 streams, 3 sites and 2 levels with 931students in total. Objective: Upstream social determinants of health – not downstream Process entailed seminar performance, short paper and a final paper The Challenges: integrating the pbl small group process into the large classes, new texts, noise levels, 1 ELM – student could not find information not knowing the students, new units each week, volume of emails. Administrating quizzes The Rewards: excellent student presentations, superb student Reflections, students helped themselves and were more mature and respectful at end of the course exceptional scores on the registrar administered exam, and no appeals!
