STRUCTURE FIRE In the event of a structure fire Alert all persons nearby and request assistance Assist any person in immediate danger (only if safe to do so) Call the Fire Brigade on "000" Close the door on the fire to contain the spread If threat to life exists, evacuate immediately, closing all doors Isolate Electricity (only if safe to do so) Shut off Gas Cylinders (only if safe to do so) Extinguish the fire (only if safe to do so) Check that all areas have been cleared Control the movement of occupants to the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point Maintain control of persons at the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point WILDFIRE In the event of a fire threat from outside the park (Wildfire) Alert all persons nearby and request assistance Call the Fire Brigade on "000" If time permits arrange a briefing of all park residents Control the movement of occupants to the Emergency Assembly Area Maintain control of persons at the Emergency Assembly Area If time permits remove annex’s and tents to prevent fire spread Implement Bush Fire Survival Plan o Commence property protection when safe to do so. o Under extreme wildfire behaviour conditions, take refuge in Emergency Assembly Area until fire front passes o Recommence property protection if safe to do so. MONITOR YOUR LOCAL ABC RADIO or local and commercial radio stations participating as official emergency broadcaster. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL In the event of hazardous material spill or leak: You should: If the spill may give off toxic or noxious fumes: Evacuate the immediate area Call the Fire Brigade on "000" Provide as much information about the hazardous material as possible If indoors ventilate to the open air if possible Notify all persons in the area to evacuate to the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point (only if it is upwind) - and - If the spill is a suspected flammable material: Remove any ignition sources Evacuate all persons in immediate danger, (ensure Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point is 200 metres clear of building and is upwind) Do not attempt to re-enter the affected area Control the movement of occupants to the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point (if required) Remain at the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point until advised by emergency services. GAS LEAK In the event of a gas leak: You should: Evacuate the immediate area Isolate the gas supply at the source (if safe to do so) Remove any ignition sources (if safe to do so) Turn off the electrical supply Notify the Fire Brigade by dialling "000" If indoors, ventilate to the open air if possible Report to the Fire Brigade on arrival regarding any actions taken Control the movement of occupants to the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point (if required) Remain at the Emergency Assembly Area or Evacuation Point until further advised by emergency services Contact Gas Supplier on ______________________________ SEVERE STORM In the event of a severe storm: Inform park occupants of impending storm activity Store or secure all items external to caravans or annexes, such as outdoor furniture, tarpaulins, gazebo’s etc Secure all windows (closing curtains & blinds) and external doors in all buildings, UMDs, caravans or annexes. Ensure caravans are tied down where possible Tape windows and glass entrances, and protect them with boards and sand bags (if necessary) Isolate/shut off electricity, water, and gas services Disconnect electrical equipment, and cover and/or move it away from windows During a severe storm move all caravan and tent occupants into a solid building - E.g. Toilet/Shower block, Recreation Room Remain in the building until storm passes, keeping the occupants away from windows After the storm, evaluate the need to evacuate If any person injured contact the Ambulance Service on 000 If assistance required call SES on 132 500 or Fire Brigade on 000 MONITOR YOUR LOCAL ABC RADIO or local and commercial radio stations participating as official emergency broadcasters FLOOD In the event of a Flood: Inform park occupants of flood warning when received If time permits relocate mobile vans, vehicles and boats to the designated storage area; Isolate/shut off electricity, water, and gas services Ensure any hazardous materials (large gas bottles, petrol, chemicals) are properly sealed and stored in an appropriate area When flood peak nearing park, relocate all remaining park users to highest ground / designated flood refuge point (eg: permanent building on highest ground, two storey if possible) NEVER DRIVE, RIDE OR WALK THROUGH FLOODWATER – THESE ARE THE MAIN CAUSES OF DEATH DURING FLOODS GENERAL EVACUATION Observe and listen to determine the type of emergency that requires the evacuation i.e. bomb scare, chemical spill, large building fire, gas leak etc Notify all persons in the building to evacuate under instruction from the Manager Secure confidential and valuable items, and if time permits shut down electrical/ mechanical equipment Close all doors (except for bomb threat) Take handbags, briefcases and suitcases with you Direct all persons to proceed to Evacuation Point (predetermined location or as nominated by the Park Manager) Check all areas are cleared and inform the Park Manager of the status of evacuation & any actions Control the movement of occupants to the Evacuation Point (if required) Remain at the Evacuation Point until advised by emergency services MEDICAL EMERGENCY In the event of required medical assistance: You should : Check for any threatening situation and remove or control it (if safe to do so) Remain with the casualty and provide appropriate support Provide first aid if qualified personnel available Notify the Ambulance Service by dialling "000" Note: Provide support and appropriate assistance Provide appropriate treatment if trained and competent to do so Try not to leave casualty alone until emergency assistance arrives Do not move a casualty unless they are exposed to a life threatening situation PERSONAL THREAT/CIVIL DISTURBANCE You should: (IF SAFE TO DO SO) Notify the Police by dialling "000" and requesting assistance Do not do or say anything that may encourage irrational behaviour Alert any other persons in your vicinity Initiate action to: restrict entry to the building or area if possible confine or isolate the presence from other occupants Monitor the status of any other occupant's safety Evacuation should be considered (only if safe to do so) Have as many people as possible complete the "DESCRIPTION OF OFFENDER" form. BOMB THREAT In the event of receiving a telephone bomb threat: The recipient should keep the caller talking (do not hang up at any time), and note as many details as possible on the Bomb Threat Checklist. Important details include: Exact wording of the threat Location of the device Time of detonation Sex and other details of the caller, such as estimated age Details of speech, accent, delivery, and background noises Actions to be taken by Recipient: Complete Bomb Threat Checklist (DO NOT HANG UP THE PHONE, IF POSSIBLE) obtain as much information as possible, but do not do or say anything that may encourage irrational behaviour Notify the Police by dialling "000"If not present ensure that the Chief Warden is notified immediately Carry our such other actions as instructed by the Police Actions to be taken may include: After receiving instructions from the Police the Chief Warden may organise to conduct a routine search based on the available information Search to be conducted systematically, concentrating on the most likely places such as: toilet & shower blocks, equipment rooms, fire hose cabinets, potted plants, around and under caravans, cars, boat trailers etc Ensure that doors are left open DO NOT touch any suspicious object found You should report back to the Police after the completion of the search If a suspicious object is found, or if the wording of the threat identified a particular place, then the decision to evacuate may be exercised IF A SUSPECTED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE IS FOUND: Do not touch Clear the area Notify the Police immediately. Follow the directions give Prevent all persons from entering the area where the device is located EARTHQUAKE In the event of an earthquake: You should : Instruct building occupants to keep away from windows and seek shelter After the earthquake Evaluate the need to evacuate if uncontrolled fires, gas leaks or structural damage has occurred Assembly Area or Evacuation Point (if required) is to be clear of trees, powerlines, buildings, etc Isolate/shut off electricity, water and gas services if necessary Arrange medical assistance where required Monitor the safety of all other occupants, and provide any necessary assistance Tune in radios and follow any emergency instructions If any person injured contact the Ambulance service on 000 If assistance required call SES on 132 500 or Fire Brigade on 000 MONITOR YOUR LOCAL ABC RADIO or local and commercial radio stations participating as official emergency broadcasters
