Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to the organisation's goals: The Advanced Trainee works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within the Rural and Remote Mental Health Services (RRMHS) which is focused on mental health assessment, care and treatment of people who identify as being of Aboriginal decent and are linked to country communities. The team supports the identified client group by: Liaising and working collaboratively the clinical teams within RRMHS. Providing consultation - liaison (CL) services to mainstream health and mental health staff within both metropolitan and country areas. Providing video based clinical assessment and review using a CL approach. Providing clinical visiting services to targeted country communities. Working across metropolitan and country mental health services to increase access and capacity to provide culturally appropriate mental health care. Working with staff from Aboriginal controlled health services to build capacity to support people with mental health problems. 2. Reporting/Working Relationships (To whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation.) The Advanced Trainee: Reports to the RRMHS Clinical Director for clinical services and outcomes Reports to the RRMHS Director for operational and administrative matters. Works closely and collaboratively with members of the RRMHS Aboriginal Mental Health Team currently comprising Senior Psychiatrist, Cultural Consultant/Liaison Worker and Senior Nursing staff Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all RRMHS staff. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with health and mental health staff within metropolitan and country based services. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff within Aboriginal controlled services. 3. Special Conditions (Such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime, etc.) –1– Advanced Trainee – Psychiatry General – Indigenous Rural and Remote Mental Health Service Conditions of employment are in accordance with the South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Award and the relevant Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Maintaining medical board registration and producing appropriate documentation as directed by the hospital Actively participate in regular clinical and development assessment Intrastate and possibly some interstate travel will be required, including travel by air, in small aircraft and/or four wheel drive vehicle to remote communities. Overnight stays may be necessary in remote communities. Valid driving licence must be held. 4. Statement of Key Outcomes and Associated Activities (Group into major areas of responsibility/activity and list in descending order of importance) To assist Consultants and other clinical staff within RRMHS with culturally appropriate assessment, care and treatment of Aboriginal clients. Provide CL services to staff within metropolitan and country based services supporting Aboriginal clients within the target group. Use videoconferencing to provide CL assessment and review to target group clients based in the country. Provide visiting clinical services to targeted country communities including providing services in Aboriginal Health Services. Provide up-skilling, training and development to staff within mainstream and Aboriginal controlled health services. Participate in rosters and on-call duties as required. To provide services to the general RRMHS client group including support for other RMOs/Registrars where this may be required/requested due to workload or other unforeseen circumstances. Quality To ensure that clients and families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up; To participate in RRMHS quality activities program as requested by the Leadership Team; To be responsive to client and relative complaints, liaising with appropriate senior staff, general practitioners and others involved in the care; To facilitate excellent communications and liaison with other staff. Medical Records To complete the appropriate clinical documentation including case note entries, clinical letters and reports. All documentation must be legible, timely, appropriately regular and comprehensive so as to document important changes and decisions, dated, designated and signed. Notes will include adequate information for coding and patient care purposes. To inform the Director/Clinical Director of any relevant administrative issues. To attend training/education activities as part of the RANZCP Psychiatry Training Program. To participate in teaching medical students and RMOs and to supervise junior psychiatric trainees. To abide by the organisational and service policies and procedures.
