Psychological type and religion Psychological type theory has its roots in the pioneering theory of Carl Jung, and has been extended and made known through the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Since the early 1990s Leslie J Francis has pioneered theoretical and empirical research on the connection between psychological type theory and both the psychology of religion and empirical theory. He has developed the Francis Psychological Type Scale (FPTS) and the SIFT method of biblical hermeneutics and liturgical preaching.
