St.Francis’ week at St.Francis’ Catholic Primary School On 4th October children at St.Francis’ Catholic Primary School, Goosnargh begun their week of celebration honouring the patron of their school-St.Francis. The 4th October marked the feast of St.Francis of Assisi and the following week in school was dedicated to the Saint. The children enjoyed a whole school mass where there was a blessing of the shrine to St.Francis and the Reception children made animals to present at the shrine. Headteacher Miss Sarah Deakin commented‘The whole school have immersed themselves in learning about the Saint and have embraced outdoor learning as part of our dedication St.Francis. We are truly blessed with our outdoor facilities and it is so fitting that St.Francis is the patron Saint of our school.’ ‘The school council, eco warriors and our UFA group have been leading the school in assemblies, creating animal hideaways, organising our weekly Fairtrade stall and much more. We are delighted that the Year 6 children have also taken their new responsibilities seriously and they are currently holding meetings with our younger children to teach them valuable life skills when looking after our environment.’ ‘Our Year 5 children, who are ‘buddies’ for the new Reception children are training to be peer mediators and are also going to be painting a new ‘buddy bench’ outdoors. Father Smith and the parisioners were delighted to see so many children participating in the liturgy and were equally delighted to see so many of the new school choir and school band playing and singing together in our Family Mass last weekend. The children in the school choir rehearse every Thursday lunch time and the school band rehearse every Friday lunchtime. Miss Deakin added- ‘It is staggering that over a third of children in our school take part in choir or band. I am in awe of their constant enthusiasm and we are delighted to be invited to perform at the Goosnargh Village Hall in January.’
