Leadership Roles
 Serves as chief executive officer with an annual $37 million operating budget and staff of
165; HIMSS also annually presents the largest healthcare IT conference and exhibition with
an attendance of 25,000 (one of the Top 60 exhibitions of any kind in the US)
 Responsible for development and implementation of the Society’s strategic and tactical plans,
representation of the industry to government and other organizations, and providing
leadership within HIMSS and to the industry on healthcare information technology trends and
issues
 Serves on the following Boards of Directors: HIMSS, HIMSS Foundation, HIMSS Analytics
(chairman), MedTech Publishing, Center for Information Technology Leadership, the
Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) and the Certification
Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT). Also, serves as a member of
the Steering Committee for the Markle Foundation’s Connecting for Health Initiative, the
Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) strategic committee, the Healthcare Leadership
Alliance, the EHR Collaboration, and the Board of Sponsors of the Commission for
Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education.
 Speaker on healthcare information technology issues and trends to groups and executive
management teams at major HIT corporations, consulting firms, other associations and other
non-profit organizations and federal agencies
Management/Program Accomplishments
 Co-Founder of the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology and the
Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel
 Created the nationally recognized certification program for HIT professionals to improve
professionalism and competency
 Expanded organization globally to include educational programs in Europe and Asia

VICE PRESIDENT, PERSONAL MEMBERSHIP GROUPS (1998-2000)
Leadership Roles
 Served as executive management for the Division of Personal Membership Groups, a $15
million annual budget division of AHA, consisting of 14 societies and a staff of 75
 Responsible for setting division’s strategic direction, providing strategic and business
planning support to the societies, conducting board/governance training programs, and
providing executive support and other association management services to the societies, their
governing boards and staff
Management/Program Accomplishments
 Formed the AHA Certification Center for the development and administration of certification
programs for healthcare management professions. Initiated certification programs for risk
management, healthcare engineering, and materials management. Also served as President of
the Certification Center’s Board of Directors
 Responsible for the implementation of a new membership management IT application that
consolidated the 14 societies’ hardware infrastructure and software applications into a single
system

 Served as chief executive officer with an annual $8.5 million operating budget and staff of 65
 Served as a member of four corporate boards (ENA, ENA Foundation, Board of Certification
for Emergency Nursing, National Flight Nurses Association) and provided strategic and
operational leadership to all four related corporations
Management/Program Accomplishments
 Reversed a 1989 operating loss into both total and operating profits in every subsequent year
 Coordinated the installation of the Association’s first in house computer system, first in house
management information system and the purchase of the Association’s first headquarters’
building
 Led the expansion of the Association’s educational publications from two manuals in 1989 to
an offering of nearly 100 different titles available via print, video, software and slide media
