Policy on the Transfer of Copyright to Journal Articles
In order to effectively publish and disseminate the many articles published in Cambridge journals, it is the policy of the Press to
require, as a condition of publication, a written Transfer of Copyright Agreement to each article. With this Transfer, the Press is able
to affect the widest possible distribution of the scholarly endeavors of our contributors, in not only printed form, but in microform,
electronic and magnetic information retrieval systems, as well as in any future means of communication. The Transfer further allows
the Press to keep issues available to readers long after initial publication, and affords the maximum protection against copyright
infringement. (Although exempt by law from the transfer requirement, certain government authors must still certify this exemption in
the space provided.)
Contributors should note that certain rights are retained: as noted on the transfer agreement, future use of the work by the original
authors/copyright holders is allowed, provided that standard acknowledgement to the journal is given. Cambridge will provide letters
of gratis permission to authors should their future publisher require written documentation. Third party requests to republish all or
part of a Cambridge journal article are granted only upon the condition that the authors’ permission is also sought (which must be
assumed to be granted if the authors do not respond within four weeks); and 50% of any proceeds from permission fees will be
assigned to the contributors.
Please be sure that you submit the Transfer of Copyright Agreement to the Editor along with your manuscript or as soon as possible
thereafter, in order to prevent any delay in processing your contribution for publication.

