The following items and quantities should be adequate for the entire semester.
35 mm camera- manually adjustable. That means that the camera may be focused
by hand, and the aperture and shutter speed be set independently without the camera
overriding it. A through the lens metering system (TTL) is desirable. A 50 mm lens,
considered a “normal” lens is needed, although adjustable, or “zoom“ lenses including
a 50 mm focal length is acceptable.
The following supplies will cost approximately $350 or more during the course of
the semester.
Arista Premium B&W 400 ISO, 36 exp (from freestylephoto.biz item # 192364)
or Kodak, B&W Tri-X, 36 exp. Tri-X can be purchased from a local camera store.
10 - 12 rolls of black & white film is a conservative estimate.
If you purchase all the film right away you can store it in the fridge. Avoid storing in hot
places like your car. Light sensitive materials degrade in high temperatures.

You may use any surface quality such as glossy, pearl, etc. It is more economical to buy
100 sheet boxes but you may buy 25 sheet packages as well. DO NOT OPEN YOUR
PAPER IN LIGHT.
Clothing for lab work: bring an apron or wear expendable clothing
Notebook for assignment sheets, negatives, contact sheets and notes.
Later in the semester you will need:
11 X 14” mounting board
Dry mount tissue for resin coated paper ie. Color Mount
Sharpie permanent fine-tipped marker

Text Book: Photography 9th or 10th Edition by London, Stone, Upton
red, LED flashlight
Towel (small, absorbent for use in the darkroom) Don’t forget to wash it weekly!
