21st December 2012 Dear Parents It has been lovely to see so many of you at our recent Christmas events and we are always bowled over by the generosity shown by everyone at the end of our Christmas concerts and Infant plays. Following the retiring collections, we will be able to send a cheque for £1,100 to the Michael Murphy Para Trust. Thank you so much for your wonderful support and Mrs Soulsby is completely overwhelmed by your kindness toward her nephew. We are delighted to let you know that Michael will be competing next year after successful surgery, aiming for the British Para Dressage Championships. Please visit his website for further information: www.michaelmurphy.org Christmas Lunch We would like to congratulate Ms Dex and all her team for providing such a splendid Christmas lunch. It was delicious and the children really enjoyed it. We feel fortunate to have such a great team supplying our school lunches. FOLV Update Thank you so much to all those who came along to the Carol Service on Wednesday. It was a lovely evening with fantastic performances in particular from many of the children in Year 6. Special thanks go to Becky Newman for providing her delicious mulled wine and to Rowan Fenner for putting together the programme, organising the Dads into a spectacular performance and playing the piano so beautifully! The retiring collection was for Street Kids International and raised a fabulous £246 so thank you for such generosity. School Clubs All the after-school clubs will be starting next term the second week back, week beginning Monday 14th January, apart from the Y3/Y4 Gymnastics club and the Science Club which will start on Tuesday 8th January. Chess club letters and slips will be sent out the first week of term. St Simon’s Senior Citizens Social Anne Burke has also asked us to pass on her grateful thanks to all those who helped to make this event not only possible but such a success, from the drivers who collected and delivered to all those who kindly supplied the food and sang, generously taking the time to spread a little Christmas joy. Ashmead Care Home Today, our Year 6 children visited the Ashmead Care Home to sing carols to the residents. The children sang beautifully and the residents and staff really enjoyed their visit. It is always a very moving occasion and we are really proud of the children. Finally, on behalf of all the staff, could I once again say how very touched and moved we all are by the lovely gifts and cards that we have received. We are deeply appreciative of your thoughtful kindness at such a busy and demanding time for families. We would like to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and we look forward to seeing the children again in the New Year on Monday 7th January. God Bless. With every best wish Deirdre McDonald
