Assignment: write a letter to a real government official regarding your
views on Genetically Modified Foods. You do NOT need to actually send
the letter, it is only for me to read. It is due on
______________________.
Marking requirements:
1. Must be addressed to a real member of the government (provincial or federal),
including the mailing address;
2. Must follow an accurate "business letter" format. (Word has good templates);
3. Should be typed (but I will accept hand written if absolutely necessary;
4. Must include 3 good, valid arguments (reasons) for or against GMOs and a specific
example or evidence supporting your arguments;
Must include at least 2 sources where you found your information (make sure you are
confident in the source - what for "junk science").

Students will begin working on their Debate preparation on the reproductive systems.
"Be it resolved that the male reproductive system is significantly more complex than the
female reproductive system."

Students will split into 2 teams. They will begin their research and data gathering phase.
They will select 5 members of their team to present their arguments and refute the
arguments of their opponents. Five other students will serve as "supporters" and will be
able to pass up written information to their debaters but will not be permitted to speak. The
remaining members of the 2 teams will serve as the "judges" and evaluate the validity of
the arguments, the persuasiveness of the arguments presented and the supporting evidence
provided by each debater.
