Abstract ZnO nanocrystals with hexagonal structure (zincite) were prepared by simple chemical method. In order to optimize the properties of ZnO nanocrystals we grow those using different solvents (distilled water, ethanol, methanol and acetone). The effects of solvent on the nanostructure and optical properties of ZnO were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), and UV – VIS spectrophotometry. The effect of solvent on the yield, lattice parameters, particle size, microstrain, shape and energy gap of obtained ZnO nanocrystals were studied.
