MAKING AN INTERVIEW Type of activity: Group work (groups of at least 3 students) Task: Roleplay, speaking, question forming, spoken English Preparation: You will need to make one or two copies and cut them Instructions: 1. Brainstorm the structure of an interview in the radio or on TV. What are typical introductory / closing phrases. Write them on the board. 2. You are going to practice spoken English and conversation phrases. 3. Divide your students into groups of at least 3 students. Tell them that they are going to be the STARS this lesson. Ask them to make an interview for a famous talk show on TV. Let them decide who is going to be the host (interviewer) and which students are going to be the stars. Explain them that they are going to get a card with the instructions. The interviewer is supposed to find out as much information about the stars as possible. Tell them to use as much fantasy as they wish. Tell them that EVERYBODY has to participate. 4. Tell students that they have to use the phrases on board as well as those on their cards. Go through them together and give their Czech equivalents. 5. Give each group a card with the instructions. Let them discuss their task and get ready for the interview. Walk around and provide help if needed. 6. When the students are ready, you may ask them to perform their interview in front of the class.
