Georgia Animal Habitat Project Dear Parents: We are beginning to study Georgia’s habitats. This week we will begin our study of the mountain habitat of Georgia. Your child will be researching and writing a report for Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts. Your child may choose an animal that would be found in any of the regions of Georgia. If you want, I can assign the animal for him and or her, but I want to give them an opportunity to research and work on an animal that they may have some interest in. Your child will be researching their assigned animal at home. They are welcome to bring home their science text books. I am including a research guide sheet for them to record their findings. They will bring this paper, including their research, back to school on February 17. We will be using this information as a part of a writing prompt. I will send a copy of the research back home with each student so he and she can use it to build the diorama. Your child will create a diorama (shoebox project) at home. The diorama should include the animal, plants, and landscape (habitat) in which the specific animal lives (mountain, piedmont, swamp, coastal plain, or ocean habitats). Please provide your child with a shoebox and art supplies. Encourage your child to be as creative as possible! This diorama is due on February 28. This diorama assignment will count as a Science test grade. If you have any questions, please send a note with your child or e-mail me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------** Please sign and return the bottom of this sheet by Wednesday January 29, 2014. I have read this assignment. The due date for the diorama is February 28. Student name: ______________________ has chosen _________________ as his/her animal for research.
