Teacher Appreciation Week A very heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful parents who helped pamper us during Teacher Appreciation Week! We fully (no pun intended!) enjoyed the scrumptious lunches each day along with the extra help with lunch duty. The beautiful flowers sent in by several children each day were a dazzling addition to our classroom, too! We feel very blessed to work at Woodland and are honored to learn with your children each day. Thank you to all who made this week even more special! Bravo on a GREAT Concert! As many of you already know, the primary children performed a charming spring concert for us all on Wednesday night! It was nice seeing so many families support our primary music program. In case you were unable to attend the concert, we also recognized Ms. Lewis for her many years of great teaching for primary music. Next fall Ms. Lewis will be carrying out her student teaching opportunity for a general education teaching position. We wish her the best in her new journey! IOWA Testing The IOWA testing for our 1st and 2nd graders concluded on Thursday morning. Thank you for getting your child to school well rested and on time all week! Students as Shadows Next week our 2-3ers will have the fun experience of either being a “shadow” or having someone else “shadow” them. Our 3rd grade friends will be visiting the 4/5 classroom to shadow a 4th grader for one morning section and an afternoon section to see what a typical day looks like in the Middle Village at Woodland. Similarly, the 2nd grade friends will have a 1st grader shadow them for a morning so the 1st graders can gain a little insight as to how we do things in the 2-3. We have found in years past that this time of “shadowing” has helped in a smooth transition for the children for next fall. Measurement Olympics Tuesday afternoon’s gorgeous weather made the perfect scenario for doing our Measurement Olympics outdoors for math! The children participated in three events: The Long Jump, The Ball Toss, and the Box Slide. Ask your child to give you more details as to what his/her “job” was during this time. What unit of measurement did s/he use? What was easy or difficult about this learning task? ***Next week we’ll be headed to the pond to explore learning about perimeter! Surprise Visitor! We had a great time visiting with Sonnet (recall that the Antio family relocated to North Carolina shortly after holiday break) on Monday and Tuesday this week. She was up with her family closing on the sale of their house in Michigan. It was nice to be able to finally say “goodbye” officially to her as we weren’t able to do so on her earlier “last day” because school was closed due to a snow storm. Student of the week?
