The Delaware County Chapter, PSPE cordially extends an invitation the members of the Philadelphia Chapter, PSPE to attend our January Dinner Meeting on WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 21ST, 2004 Our program that evening will feature a presentation by Thomas G. May, PE and Spencer Finch of Urban Engineers entitled Converting a Brownfield into a Fed-Ex Facility and Parkland. Over the past three decades, the Delaware Valley and the City of Philadelphia, in particular, has been losing its job base as manufacturers have relocated to “greener pastures.” When they abandoned the City, they left behind thousands of acres of formerly productive land, some in a state of contamination and unusable for most purposes. With this in mind, the City of Philadelphia created its Brownfield’s Development Program to identify properties that have the potential to be cleaned up and reused. Urban Engineers, Inc. performed environmental consulting services that led to reclamation and redevelopment of the site for use by Federal Express resulting in site cleanup and the creation of a $15 million package distribution center and150 new jobs. About 15 percent of the site is located along the riverbanks of the Schuylkill River, and will be used as part of the future Schuylkill River Greenway Park. The state-of-theart FedEx distribution facility provided a strategic location for the company to better serve customers in the Greater Philadelphia region. at the TOWNE HOUSE RESTAURANT www.townehouse.com MEDIA, PA 117 Veterans Square Social 6:30 PM (Cash Bar) Dinner 7:00 PM Presentation 8:00 PM COST: $20.00/Person Advanced reservations are required and must be made by contacting John Nawn at john_nawn@urscorp.com or 215-587-9000 x3000.
