Associated Students Sonoma State University The mission of the Associated Students, Inc. is to enrich the lives of Sonoma State University students. Job Description – ASP Cultural and Current Events Director (Student Assistant III) Definition and Purpose Under the supervision of the AS Programming Coordinator of the Associated Students, the AS Cultural and Current Events Director helps develop, coordinate, and implement a wide variety of social and educational events and programs for Sonoma State students and the campus community. The Cultural and Current Events Director will work as part of a team including other Directors. One of the Cultural and Current Events Director’s responsibilities will be to oversee a Cultural and Current Events Committee that will produce events pertaining to current events happening in the world as they come and will also produce events for certain topical and cultural issues on campus and nationally. Educational and Qualifying Experience Must be a currently enrolled student at Sonoma State University. All AS student staff must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0. Previous event production or promotions experience desired. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Possess strong time-management skills. Set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to work independently and take initiative. Possess a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Must be courteous and pleasant at all times. Ability to work effectively with and for student leaders. Knowledge of student clubs and organizations, various campus departments and services, current campus events, and general information regarding the campus and the Associated Students, is desired. Computer Skills Computer skills in the following applications preferred: Microsoft Office programs, common e-mail systems, and basic website maintenance programs. Familiarity with internet research and communication required. Use of copier, fax, and other office equipment as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Research potential events of interest to our students. Develop a budget and proposal for each event in a timely fashion Develop and implement a marketing plan for each event 2/16/2016 Follow University and AS policies and procedures for scheduling facilities, police services, paying performers and other logistical requirements of producing campus events. Coordinate all needed staffing for each event including box office, technical support and Event Staff Service as an on-site manager of events. Distribute flyers and put up posters on a weekly basis. Outreach to students, campus organizations and classes in order provide diverse engaging programming. Maintain program budgets Excellent phone skills and the ability to cold call and do outreach for programs and events. Must have ability to organize filing systems and keep track of all ongoing projects. Recruit, maintain, and oversee a Cultural and Current Events Committee that will produce events pertaining to current events happening in the world as they come and will also produce events for certain topical and cultural issues on campus and nationally. Period of Employment Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time with two weeks notice or the Associated Students may immediately discharge the employee at any time with or without cause. Compensation and Hours Must be available to work approximately 15 hours a week during the academic year as well as July and August. Additional summer hours may be available. $10.75 per hour - approximately 15 hours per week, No benefits Pay (step) increases are designed to recognize and reward satisfactory work performance. Satisfactory work performance will be based on performance evaluations. Performance evaluations are once a semester (twice yearly).
