The Spreading of Civilization History of Karl Lamprecht in the First Half of the 20th Century in China Zhang Jingping Since late Qing Dynasty, as one of the important resources of western historiography, Karl Lamprecht’s civilization history had been introduced into Modern China by Chinese“The New History”historians. When studied in Leipzig University in Germany in 1908, Tsai Yuan pei listened to many courses about history of civilization lectured by Karl Lamprecht. Also, teachers and students from many universities such as Beijing University and Nanjing University introduced Lamprecht and his theory in 1920s. Then, in 1930s and 1940s, Lamprecht The Spreading of Civilization History of Karl Lamprecht in the First Half of the 20th Century in China’s theory was highly introduced and remarked by internal academic circle. An important aspect of the relationships between the development of modern Chinese new historiography and western historiography can be well understood through the process of early spreading of Lamprecht’s civilization history in China.
