Who should attend?
This is an interdisciplinary network with academics, clinicians (primary care and acute sector with interests in all cancers), health professionals, policy makers and representatives from the voluntary sector. Network members have with interests and expertise in laboratory science, cancer epidemiology, health economics, health policy, medical genetics, nursing, patient/consumer representation, primary care, psychology, social marketing, social care and statistics.

Possible topics covered include:
The scope of the CPRN encompasses research directly aimed at prevention interventions and related elements of aetiology. The focus is research aimed at primary prevention, leading to a reduction in cancer incidence, resulting in a reduction in mortality. The specific areas of research included are:
Diet and nutrition including obesity
Exposure to and screening for infectious agents and associated vaccine studies
Environmental risk factors including radiation and sunlight
Public health policy
Communication and intervention
Behaviours affecting cancer risk and strategies to modify behaviour e.g. alcohol
Genetic counselling and prevention interventions for “at-risk” populations
Surrogate markers (both in the circulation and at a tissue level) and cancer risk
Chemoprevention trials
Screening for and detection of tumours (but excluding screening mechanics research)
Identification of genes involved in hereditary pre-disposition
Identification of low-penetrance genes and genetic predisposition studies.
These areas span four broad fields: basic science, health promotion, population and behavioural studies, and trials.
