Johnson County Sheriff's Office Criminalistics Laboratory An ASCLD/LAB Accredited Laboratory (Since 1999) EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Forensic Latent Print Examiner Position: Forensic Scientist I – III (Latent Prints) Starting Salary Range: $53,643.20 to $85,384.00 (Commensurate with experience) Location: Olathe, Kansas (Kansas City metro area) The Criminalistics Division of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a qualified applicant for a position in our Latent Print Section. The major duties of the position include applying the appropriate processing techniques on evidence submissions, analysis of latent print evidence; comparison and evaluation of latent finger, palm, and foot prints for identification; and entering latent prints into the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS). Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, criminalistics/forensic science, natural science or any other closely related field with laboratory science coursework. FS II – Three years of forensic experience, or two years of forensic experience plus a science based advanced degree or a current forensic science certification (i.e. IAI). FS III – Eight years of forensic experience with a forensic science certification is required (i.e. IAI). One year of credit will be given towards the experience requirement for certification. One year of credit will be given towards experience for a science based advanced degree. The applicant will be required to successfully complete a laboratory training program in latent prints and a competency/proficiency test before beginning independent casework responsibilities.
