Lab 3031 Importance of Improved Genetics Lab Objective: To be able to identify and examine the effect of genetics to modern animal agriculture. Purpose/overview: This lab is designed to provide an opportunity for students to learn about improved genetics. Lab Background: The world of agriculture is changing to have increase yields or faster production. In animal agriculture the goal is to have the best weight gain with little inputs so that at the end the highest dollar is achieved. This is done through improved genetics. Materials: Large sheet of paper Scissors Magazines Tape Marker Procedure: Look through magazines and select farm animals and cut them out. Locate 3 pictures. Tape these animals to the sheet of paper. Next to these pictures write down the possible improved genetics that might have been done and why they were done. This is a creative exercise. After everyone is finished the entire class will present their poster of animals.
