Year 6 Homework – Period 1 From this term you will be getting a literacy homework every 2 weeks which will be handed out on a Monday and due in the following Monday. This should be completed in your blue literacy homework book. You will be set bi-weekly homework tasks in Maths using the MyMaths programme – a super internet resource that you will be able to access with a login that you will be given. This programme is used very successfully at local secondary schools. You should also take at least 5 homework ideas from this grid based our topic for this term ‘Into the Deep’. Complete the tasks in your red homework book which will be collected in on Thursday 22nd October and then marked by your teacher. Please read at least 3 times a week (preferably every day!) recording the reading in your diary. You should also learn your spellings. Write about where it is located and how it came to be there. Art / DT Find a painting of a mythical sea creature. Sketch a picture of it, then use pastels or paints to add colour and texture. Can you write your own short story based on an ocean theme such as a ship-wreck, a pirate, a mermaid, a whale or a dolphin ? Can you complete a mixed times table grid in under 2 minutes? Go on and challenge yourself! Ask your teacher for a grid. Literacy Mathema tical Music Science Can you create a piece of music which represents the sounds of the sea? Use anything you like to create the sound-scape. Record it and bring it in to share. Choose a shell you have found. Find out all about the creature that it once belonged to. What are the five major oceans of the world? Find some interesting facts about each ocean e.g. What climate zones are they in? How deep are they at their deepest point? What countries do they surround? What is the largest creature that inhabits it? Can you design a working lighthouse? Build a circuit with a switch. Then create a model of a lighthouse and put the circuit in it. Can you read the Buckingham Advertiser to find out what is going on in your locality? Review the article, stating your opinion.
