People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: uses and properties of cleaning chemicals, and handling and storage of cleaning chemicals, used to clean milk tankers, in a dairy processing operation. Organisational requirements – instructions to staff on policies and procedures which are documented in memo, electronic or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – site specific requirements, manufacturer’s specifications and legislative requirements. Evidence requirements 1.1 Uses of cleaning chemicals are described in terms of their application for soil removal and hygiene control. Evidence requirements 2.1 Material safety data sheets are explained in terms of their purpose and type of information provided. 2.2 The process of handling cleaning chemicals safely is described in terms of the protection of self and others from harm through contact absorption, ingestion and inhalation. protection processes include but are not limited to – use of safety equipment and protective clothing; safe handling processes include but are not limited to – dispensing, dilution, transport of chemicals, non-mixing of chemicals, location and use of eye wash stations and showers.
