NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING BRUNSWICK COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS TO CONSIDER THE ADOPTION OF AN ORDINANCE TO REDISTRICT AND ESTABLISH ELECTION DISTRICTS, PRECINCTS, AND POLLING PLACES FOR BRUNSWICK COUNTY, VIRGINIA The Board of Supervisors of Brunswick County, Virginia, will hold a public hearing on May 19, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. to consider the adoption of the Redistricting Ordinance which establishes boundary lines for each election district and precinct and designates polling places within each precinct. The redistricting is required by law following each decennial census. The public hearing will be held in the auditorium of the County Government Building located at 100 Tobacco Street, Lawrenceville, Virginia. The following is a summary of the changes to the current election districts and precincts that are contained in the Redistricting Ordinance: Change #1: Three Census blocks will be moved from the Sturgeon Election District to the Totaro Election District. This area contains a population of 148 persons. The affected area is bounded on the north by US 58 Business, on the east by Clary Street, on the south by the abandoned Norfolk Franklin Danville Railroad, and on the west by the easternmost boundary of Lawrenceville. Change #2: Twenty-six Census blocks within the corporate boundaries of the Town of Alberta are currently divided between three Elections Districts. These Census blocks which contain no residents will be moved to the Red Oak Election District. As a result, all Census blocks will be contained within the Town of Alberta corporate boundaries. Change #3: Sixteen Census blocks containing 105 persons will be moved from the Powellton Election District to the Meherrin Election District. These census blocks are located in the area where Pea Hill Creek (Lake Gaston) reaches the southern boundary of the County; the area is bounded on the south by the southern County boundary, on the east by State Route 669 (Dromgoole Road), and on the north and west by Lake Gaston. A full description of each boundary line and polling place location is contained in the proposed Ordinance with the accompanying redistricting census data. A copy of the proposed Ordinance and exhibits, including the proposed election district map are on file and available for inspection in the Office of the County Administrator, County Government Building, 100 Tobacco Street, Lawrenceville, Virginia.
