Economy, Transport and Environment - Winter Service
Snow Wardens
Snow Wardens will be required to act on behalf of their Town or Parish
Council during the period of Winter Service delivery between October and
April of each year, via defined lines of communication.
Duties
Provide information on local
conditions (to Economy,
Transport and Environment)
Act as a single point of contact
within the Town or Parish
Act as a Co-ordinator for local
volunteers
Report empty grit bins
Act as an ambassador for
County Council Winter Service
Snow Wardens will be required to report
the latest position on conditions in their
local areas during extreme weather to the
nominated contact in Economy,
Transport and Environment, supporting
delivery of the overall Winter Service.
Enable the distribution of information to
local residents within the community,
including reports affecting vulnerable
residents.
Provide a local co-ordination service
amongst Town or Parish volunteers, to
enable best use to be made of the local
resources. This may include distributing
information via the most appropriate
method, co-ordinating snow clearing
activities, liaison with local schools and
distribution of local salt stocks.
Monitor and report on the status of grit
bins within local communities to enable
stores to be held in readiness for extreme
weather conditions. Snow Wardens will
be expected to make use of the agreed
process for the refilling of bins.
Act as a local ambassador between
residents and the Derbyshire County
Council Winter Service during times of
extreme weather, aiming to improve
overall service delivery to communities in
Derbyshire
