McNary Wresting Fundraising Activities and description Each year we are faced with fundraising in order to provide the wrestlers the best opportunities we can in wrestling, academics, travel, and team building. Below is a list of our annual fundraisers, a brief description, suggestion for parent helpers/volunteers, and approximate date for completion. Although we tend to stick to these events, as different opportunities and situations arise, we will do what we must do to accommodate. Thanks for taking the time to read and prepare yourself for these: 1. Kids Wrestling Camp This is an introductory camp put on for 3 weeks prior to the start of High School Wrestling Season. It is the starting blocks for our youth wrestling club (Celtic Mat Club). We need 10-12 wresters at each practice to help coach and manage the young wrestlers. There is typically 3 practices each week in the evenings, and we will host one tournament. When we host the tournament, we will need another 10-12 wrestlers to help referee and manage the event. 2. McNary Wrestling Care Package Within the first 2-3 weeks of season, your wrestler will be asked to address 10 envelopes to distant relatives/friends/business owners. These letters are intended to drum up donations from family members that typically do not get to see or experience our program but want to be able to help us out. In return, supporters may get a spot of recognition on our website and/or a team picture mailed to them as a thank you. Parent Volunteers: Much help is needed to make sure the envelopes are properly addressed in neat handwriting, and much help is needed to process the thank you letters and return packages. 3. Kids Wrestling Tournament We will host a Mat Club tournament on Saturday following our Home Tournament. It is convenient because the mats will already be in place and we just operate the tournament and clean up afterwards. All wrestlers are required to attend and work this event by running tables/running concessions/organizing weigh ins and making groups. This event will run from early morning (around 6:45 am) until 3-4 in the afternoon. Please watch for more specific announcements as the event approaches. Parent Volunteers: This event is a great fundraiser for us and your help is greatly appreciated! We can use all the people we can to help put on a high quality event that people come back to every year! 4. Can/Bottle Drive Each Wrestler will participate in a can drive so please start saving up now. This is the easiest fundraiser we do. We try to have wrestlers collect cans on their own. During the holiday break, we will meet at the local Keizer Albertson’s and drop off the cans where your name will be checked off. Parent Volunteers: Help is needed to help check in wrestlers at the store. If you are willing to be there and assist, during different time intervals, and simply check off the names. 5. Rent-a-Wrestler Our most rewarding fundraiser of the season, and is the major source of our funding. We try to ‘sell’ wrestlers in work crews of 8-10 to people needing large, labor intensive jobs. We will work up to 6 hours and help people do yard work, moving, advertisement for business (ie Domino’s door fliers) or any other appropriate jobs. The best part about this program is the wrestlers learn to ‘give back to the community’ so they can ‘earn’ what wrestling has to offer. This project is mostly done during the first few weeks of season, but depending on jobs, can be done at various times. Parent Volunteers: Many are needed for several reasons. There are more wrestlers than Coaches. Therefore, we need parents to simply supervise work crews. Select a time that works for you and a crew/job can be assigned to you and just help make sure kids are working and behaving. Also, through word of mouth, parents can help lineup jobs. Talk to people you know, talk to your neighbors. Help promote this program and sell the wrestlers to people needing or looking for the help.
