SANDFLY AND MOSQUITO INFORMATION

It is imperative that teachers discuss with children the consequences of not
being protected from these insects. Some general information may help.

Aerosol cans are discouraged. There is the potential that it can be
sprayed into eyes or inhaled. Most repellents contain DEET which
dissolves paint, plastic and other materials.
ON ARRIVAL

Parking – as there is limited space inside the grounds of HBEEC and
because there are often many children moving around, we ask all
accompanying adults to park their cars in the cul-de-sac outside HBEEC
grounds. Buses deliver passengers inside the centre. All vehicle parking
is at owners risk.
 Children take all their gear to the Under Cover Area between the car park
and the oval.

Litter Free Meals
HBEEC strongly recommends students and staff provide nutritious litter free
meals which will promote good health and a cleaner environment.
Being litter free means that you have no packaging to throw away. Food will need
to be packed in washable, reusable containers rather than plastic or cardboard
packaging, alfoil or cling wrap.
Litter Free meals are good for parents, students and our Centre.
 For the parents- A litter free meal is less expensive to make than a
disposable lunch as it does not use costly pre-packaged foods.
 For the students- A litter free meal is healthier because generally fresh,
less processed foods are used.
 For the Centre- A litter free meal decreases the amount of litter around the
Centre.
Tips for packing a litter free mealLITTER FREE ITEMS
Fruit + Vegies
Sandwiches
Reusable containers
Dried food or nuts
Bulk yoghurt put into small reusable
container
ITEMS NOT IN A LITTER FREE MEAL
Purchased roll-up fruits/ muesli bars
Poppers
Cling Wrap/ Alfoil
Packets of chips
Small purchased container of yoghurt
Remaining organic matter is composted. Recyclable items are recycled.
Reusable containers are washed and returned home. This means no rubbish
should be going into the bins at the Centre from meals if everyone brings a
litter free meal.
Cold water is provided at the Centre. You can bring a water bottle to refill if you
wish.
See “Smart Food Choice” page for more recipes and helpful hints on Litter Free Meals

GENERAL INFORMATION

In the event of any accidents requiring ambulance assistance all children
at the HBEEC are fully covered under the Queensland Ambulance
Service’s School Subscription Scheme.

Although a timetable is sent before arrival, teachers must appreciate the
need for flexibility if unforseen situations arise eg. rain etc.

With all groups large or small it is the visiting teacher’s responsibility to
make sure children are fully supervised at all times as there is the
potential for dangerous situations to arise.

It is a risk assessment requirement that if you have never visited this site
before your excursion date YOU MUST familiarise yourself with the
centre’s layout and facilities.
PARENTAL ASSISTANCE

There is generally no room for parents on the boats. Please explain this to
parents to avoid any embarrassing situations.
WET WEATHER

If the forecast is for rain the centre teacher will contact the weather bureau
on the morning of the excursion and then talk to the co-ordinating teacher
to discuss whether or not to go ahead, If we decide not to proceed with
the excursion, another day could be decided upon. If no other day is
available, the day will have to be cancelled.
