Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring PURPOSE: To provide the nurse with the requisite knowledge and skills to accurately interpret fetal heart rate monitor data and intervene appropriately as per AWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practices. OBJECTIVES: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Demonstrate the decision-making process necessary for the proper selection and verification of fetal heart monitoring (FHM) techniques. Analyze fetal heart rate patterns, uterine activity and their implications for fetal well-being. Correlate indicated clinical interventions with related maternal-fetal well being. Describe the role and responsibility of the professional nurse in the use of FHM in intrapartum care. Simulate the psychomotor skills used in FHM. Communicate verbal and written data about patient status and verify accountability. TARGET AUDIENCE: Staff nurses working in Labor and Delivery and Post Partum.
