The First Christmas: What the Gospels really teach about Jesus’ birth, by Marcus J Borg
and John Dominic Crossan. The stories of Jesus’ birth have much emotional power in them,
but they are more than sentimental: they are both personal and political. Set in their first

Taste and See: Experiencing the stories of Advent and Christmas, by Jan Johnson. “In an
innovative approach to Advent, Jan Johnson invites you to become part of the events

the story for a while, exploring it from the perspectives of the central figures.” $19.25
The Season of Hope: A companion through the days of Advent and Christmas, by
Cathie Talbot. “The 40 personal meditations in this book offer a wise and insightful guide
through the days of Advent and Christmas, encouraging an opening of self to a deeper
