I think I found all that I can find, 9 pages. Actually, I found more than I thought I could find. People's
names change with immigration, movement from place to place, and for whatever reason. I just include all
the names used, when I do my research. The old newspaper articles were typed the way they were
written, old style for us, but it is the way they wrote in that time period of time. Hopefully; it is what you
were looking for. A good discovery was that Chris was shown to be a half brother in Nels's obituary. I
didn't even know that. There is very little information about Helene in all the records that I could find. I
posted the Bayers obituaries on the Iowa Gen Web site.

Newspaper Article - Hancock Signal, Garner, Hancock County, Iowa, 6 Oct 1897
Married, at their home in Ellington, Sept 27, 1897, by Rev. Sanford. After twenty-five years of happy wedded life
Mr. and Mrs. N. P. Bayers are married again. During the afternoon over one hundred guests arrived to witness the
happy event. Old and young seem to have met for the one purpose of doing homage to the honorable couple. At five
o'clock supper was announced and as we gathered around the table loaded with all the luxuries that satisfy the
appetite, we could not help but return thanks that we were one of the number. Special pains were taken to see that
every wish and want of the guests were gratified. The host and hostess were the recipients of a great many beautiful
presents, consisting chiefly of silverware, which Rev. Sanford presented in behalf of the guests with some very
appropriate remarks. After supper was over the young people retired to a bowery made for the occasion and there
tripped the fantastic toe, while the old people in the parlor amused themselves in a more reserved manner. Taking it
all together it was the most enjoyable time ye scribe has had for many days. We hope to see them celebrate their
golden wedding in like manner.

Biography from the book "History of Winnebago County and Hancock County, Iowa" Volume II, dated 1917
Nels P. Bayers
Among the most prosperous residents of Winnebago County is Nels P. Bayers, a retired farmer now living in Forest
City. There is much of interest concerning his life record and the methods which he has pursued in the attainment of
success that can with profit be set down. He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark, May 6, 1848, a son of Christ
and Carrie (Vestergaard) Bayers, the former of who died in Germany, and the latter in Copenhagen.
Reared under the parental roof, Nels P. Bayers acquired his education in his native country, and was a young man of
twenty-three years when in 1871 he crossed the Atlantic to the new world, settling in Manistee, Michigan, on the
25th of October of that year. There he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Marie Anderson, who came to the
United States from Denmark in 1872. For five years Mr. Bayers continued a resident of Michigan, but thinking to
find better opportunities in the west, resolved to remove to Iowa.
It was in 1876 that he arrived in Hancock county and purchased one hundred and sixty acres of land in Britt
township, ten miles west of Garner, which he sold shortly afterwards. He then bought forty acres four miles east of
Garner, where he remained for two years, after which he sold that and purchased ninety acres in Ellington township,
which he cultivated for a time. Later he disposed of that land and bought one hundred and sixty acres in the same
township. His next investment made him owner of one hundred and sixty acres adjoining and still later he bought
one hundred and eighty acres where the town of Miller is now located. He continued to occupy and cultivate his
farm in Ellington township until 1901, when he retired and removed to Forest City. He remains, however, an
extensive holder of farm lands, his possessions including five hundred and forty seven acres of valuable land near
Rochester, Minnesota, two hundred and thirty-six acres near Charles City, Iowa, one hundred and sixty acres of
irrigated land in Laramie county, Wyoming, and eighty acres of land in Sumner county, Kansas, which has become
very valuable owing to oil discoveries there. Mr. Bayers is rated among the wealthy men of Forest City. He has been
very successful, for although he came to this country a poor young man, he has worked his way steadily upward.
When he arrived in Manistee, Michigan, he had no breakfast, and possessed not a penny to buy his dinner. Two days
later he had fifteen dollars in his pocket, which his earnest labor had brought him - as much money as he made in the
mother country in six months. He was ambitious and determined to get ahead. He worked hard, utilizing every
advantage that would enable him to progress in a business way, and year by year marked an increase in his fortunes,
owing to his persistent effort, his careful investment and his keen sagacity. In addition to his farming interests he
became the organizer of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Hancock County, of which for twelve years he
was the the president. He was also the organizer of the Farmers Alliance of Hancock County and for two years
served as its president. He is now a stockholder in the First National Bank of Forest City. For many years he was
president of the Farmers Mutual Creamery Company of Forest City, the first mutual creamery company in
Winnebago County.
In 1908 Mr. Bayers was called upon to mourn the loss of his first wife, who passed away on the 2nd of April of that
year, leaving ten children, while three have departed this life. Those who still survive are: Celia M, the wife of H. J.
Ries, of Billings, Montana; Mamie, who gave her hand in marriage to C. C. Clark, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Peter
C, a resident of Antler, North Dakota; Carrie, the wife of John M. Walls, of Grafton, North Dakota; Arthur, a
banker, who makes his home in Lavina, Montana; George W., residing in Denver, Colorado; Marie, who is a music
teacher of Minneapolis, Minnesota; John and Walter, who are Montana homesteaders; and Valeta, a trained nurse of
Minneapolis, Minnesota. In May 1909, Mr. Bayers married Miss Olivia Hendrickson of Chicago, Illinois, who is a
native of Denmark.
Mr. Bayers gives his political allegiance to the democratic party but has never sought nor desired office. However,
he served on the school board in Hancock county for several years. He is in interested in progressive citizenship and
his activities have been an element in the continued growth and development of his section of the state. Here he has
lived for more than forty years and has ever been an interested witness of the events which have occurred that have
molded the history of the county.

Nels P. Bayers Dies At Daughter's Home
Funeral Party Arrived This Noon and Services Held by Rev. G. Gilberts
Funeral services for the late Nels P. Bayers were held this afternoon at three o'clock in the Norwegian Methodist
Church, conducted by the Rev. G. Gilberts. Interment was made in Oakland Cemetery. The funeral party arrived
from Minneapolis over the M. & St. L. at 1:28 this noon.
Nels P. Bayers, one of the pioneer residents of Hancock and Winnebago Counties, passed away Sunday evening,
January 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marie Garbrecht, at 4200 Branson Street, Minneapolis. Death, which
was caused by bronchial pneumonia, occurred after an illness of only a few days. As soon as the serious nature of
his illness was determined, the relatives were notified, but death came so quickly that only the children who reside in
Minneapolis were able to be at his bedside when the end came.
Nels P. Bayer was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark, on May 6, 1848. At the age of 20 years he came to the
United States and located at Manistee, Michigan. Two years later he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Marie
Anderson, also of Denmark. To this union were born thirteen children, ten of whom, survive the deceased: Mrs.
Cecelia Ries, Eugene, Oregon; Mrs. Mae Clark, 5044 Thomas Ave South; Peter C. Bayers, 4704 Avenue South;
Mrs. Marie Garbrecht 4200 Branson Street, Minneapolis; Mrs. Carrie Wells, St John, N.D.; George W. Bayers,
Denver, Colorado; John Bayers, Billings, Montana; Art C Bayers, and Walter Bayers, Musselshell, Montana; and
Mrs. Valeta Emerick, Portland, Oregon. The deceased is survived also by a half-sister, Mrs. Lewis Steffensen of this
city, and a half-brother, Chris Christensen, of Copenhagen, Denmark.
Mrs. Bertha Marie Bayers, mother of the surviving, died in Forest City, April 2, 1908. A few years later, Mr. Bayers
was united in marriage to Miss Olivia Hendrickson, who passed away May 23, 1924. Since that time he made his
home with his daughter, Mrs. Marie Garbrecht, in Minneapolis.
In May 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Bayers moved from Manistee, Michigan, and settled on a farm near Garner, Iowa. Later
they moved to Ellington, Iowa, where they resided until 1902. Mr. Bayers was one of the pioneers of that
community, and became one of the leading, prosperous farmers, and stock-raisers. He was the organizer and
president of the Hancock Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. In 1902 he removed to Forest City. He was in every
sense of the word a self-made man, having landed in this country with but fifty cents in his pocket, and unable to
speak the English language. However; he was possessed of a keen, alert mind, and was always able to see and grasp
an opportunity. In a few years, through his untiring work and thrift, he became an unusually successful farmer and
business man. He was sociable, lovable nature; he was ever a kind husband and father, and a man of sterling worth
and character.
Shortly before his death Mr.Bayers made an extensive and enjoyable trip through the west, visiting his sons and
daughters in Colorado, Oregon, Montana, and Washington. Throughout this trip he was apparently in the best of
health, therefore his sudden demise came as a great shock to his family. All of the out-of-town members of the
family arrived in Minneapolis in time to make it possible for all ten surviving children to be present at the services
held in the city on Wednesday, February 1, at 3:15 p.m. All of the relatives accompanied the remains to Forest City.

Lovable Character Passes to Reward
Remains of Mrs. Nels P. Bayers Consigned to Final Resting Place Last Sunday
On last Thursday morning, March 1st, 1908, shortly before eight o'clock, occurred the death of Mrs. Nels P. Bayers,
at the the family home in this city. A good woman, truly, has passed away. Domestic, sincerely religious, loving and
kind to all, and devoted above all to the welfare of her idolizing husband and children, by these she will be missed
most of all. Sorrowing friends innumerable share their grief, for Mrs. Bayers was one of those rarely sympathetic
woman whose pathway in life is strewn with good deeds, kind works, and practical helpfulness to others.
Mrs. Bayers maiden name was Marie Anderson. She was born in the town of Thrup Fyn, Denmark, March 22, 1848
and was therefore sixty years of age at the time of her death. In 1871 she came to America, and the year following
her arrival was married at Manistee, Michigan, to Mr. Nels P. Bayers. For four years the young couple lived at
Manistee and then moved to Iowa, locating in Ellington Township, Hancock County, in the year 1875. Eight year
ago they became permanent residents of Forest City and during that time have counted among the most substantial
residents in the town.
Mrs Bayers was the mother of thirteen children, ten of who are now living. Several who have removed to other parts
of the country, were notified by telegram, and all reached home in time to attend their mother's funeral, which was
held from the home last Sunday at 2:30 p.m. and at the Synod Lutheran church at 3:00, where Rev. T. A. Rodsetter,
assisted by Rev. J. D. Mason, performed the last offices of the church in the presence of one of the largest audiences
the church has ever held. The throng of friends who followed the remains to their last resting place, both from Forest
City and from any miles around, was an eloquent tribute in itself, and testified in a marked degree to the esteem in
which she was held.

Wedding Article, Forest City Summit, Forest City, Winnebago County, Iowa, dated 10 June 1908
On Tuesday afternoon, June 9th, at three o'clock, about fifty relatives and intimate friends of the
contracting parties witnessed the marriage ceremony which united Miss Mae, daughter of Mr. N. P. Bayers
of this city, to Mr. Cecil C. Clark of West Hope, N. D.
The wedding occurred at the home of the bride in the west part of town. Ferns, honeysuckles, roses and
jasmine transformed the spacious parlors into a bridal bower. The bride was attired in a gown of white
French organdie, very elaborately trimmed with valenciennes lace and insertion over cream taffeta. She
was accompanied to the alter by Miss Valeda Bayers, where she was given away by her father, Mr. N. P.
Bayers. The groom wore the conventional black and was attended by Mr. John Bayers, brother of the bride,
as best man. Little Miss Bertha Ries carried the bride's roses. Rev. J. D. Mason officiated, the ring
ceremony being used. Immediately following the ceremony a delicious three course dinner was served.
After a short interval of visiting with relatives and friends in this vicinity, Mr. and Mrs. Clark will go to
Winnepeg and other Canadian points for a bridal tour, before returning to their home at West Hope, where
they will reside in the future, Mr. Clark owning a large hardware store in that city.
The following wedding gifts received by the young couple testify in a measure to the esteem in which they
are held: Piano, silver cold meat fork, four pairs linen towels, burnt wood whisk broom holder, one-half
dozen sherbet glasses, solid silver knives and forks, hand painted cracker jar, cut glass berry bowl, hand
painted toothpick holder, two hand painted cake plates, china pepper and salt set, cut glass wine set, water

Independent Newspaper Obituary, Forest City, Iowa dated Sep 1, 1898
The death and burial of Andrew Bayer occurred last Sunday. While it is always a sad thing at any time to
inform our readers of the death of one of the community still our sympathies are more or less governed by
the circumstances surrounding the death. Andrew Bayer, who is the second son of N. P. Bayer of Ellington,
was a young man seventeen years old and has been working on the farm of Andrew Thurston four miles
northwest of town this summer, and it was there that the dread disease diphtheria laid holt of him, about a
month ago and resulted in death claiming him as its victim about three o'clock Sunday morning. During the
time of his sickness a strick quarantine has been kept and the care and comfort that only a kind mother can
give was constantly his. For three weeks she has laid aside her household duties and comforts of her home,
and family to administer to the higher duty that all true mothers feel called open to perform to stay by the
bedside to the last with the afflicted son giving cheer and comfort to make peaceful the last hours. Imagine
the anxiety at home of the father, brothers, and sisters as each remaining day brought news for the better or
worse as the case might be, and the shock that the last summons brought, when they realized that although
they were permitted to follow his body to the grave, they would never to look upon his face again.
The family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. None of the Thurston
family at present writing seem afflicted with the disease and it is hoped the worst is over with.

C. H. Macomber received word this week from A.C. Bayers of Portland, N. D. announcing the fact that the latter
had sold "Dupont," the famous Forest City bird dog, for $50, to a Dr. McDonald of Jamestown, N. D. Dupont was
for a long time the inseparable companion of Mr. Macomber, but not having the time to give the dog the exercise in
the field which he craved, he sold him to Mr. Bayers when the latter left Forest City for the Dakotas. A Portal paper
