Introduction This report is the evaluation on PI5USB1457A (BL option) and PI5USB1457B (BR option) and PI5USB266. Report is divided to 2 parts - First is PI5USB1457B application evaluation and the secondary part is PI5USB1457A functional evaluation. PI5USB266 is the 2 die version of PI5USB1457 but stick in auto detect mode (= SB#=0 of PI5USB1457). Also the D+ and Dvoltage is swapped between PI5USB266 and PI5USB1457. For PI5USB1457, D+=2.0V and D-=2.7V which is support Apple mode only. After swapped the D+ and D- on PI5USB266, it supports iPad mode. Charging Downstream Power (CDP) test According to the Battery Charging Specification Revision 1.2 (December 7, 2010), a charging downstream port is a downstream port on device that complies with USB2.0 definition of a host or a hub. Also the port can detect whether the CDP device is plugged in. Primary Detection: If a CDP senses a voltage greater than VDAT_REF (0.25 – 0.4V) but less than VLGC (0.8 – 2.0V) on its D+ line, it will output a voltage of VDM_SRC (0.5 – 0.7V) on its D- line. PD share compare the voltage on D- with VDAT_REF (0.25 – 0.4V). If D-> VDAT_REF, then PD is allowed to determine that it is attached to either DCP or CDP Secondary Detection: A PD shall output VDM_SRC on D-, turn on IDP_SINK and compare the voltage on D+ to VDAT_REF. Since a CDP does not short D+ and D-, the voltage on D+ will be close to GND, which is below VDAT_REF. If a PD detects that D+ is less than VDAT_REF, it knows that it is attached to a CDP Primary Detection Test setup: Secondary Detection Test setup Pericom Semiconductor Corp. 3545 North 1st street, San Jose, CA 95134, U.S.A.
