Welcome to the Global Citizens’ Colonial Tavern! As part of our study of the English Colonies, the Global Citizens will be bringing the colonies to life in the Stafford Middle School cafeteria on the morning of February 18. Parents, friends, and relatives who help with your project are invited to experience the atmosphere of a Colonial Tavern along with our team. In Engocial class, each student will be assigned to a small group. Each group will be assigned a colony, and each student within that group will be assigned a character from that colony in the year 1750. Your jobs: Use the library, Internet, and other resources to research all the details of your character’s life. You may work together with your group to gather information about your colony. See your research worksheet for more details. Become your character from the colonies. Using your research, write a week’s worth of diary entries, in which you record and describe details of your life and work, as well as your impressions and opinions about what’s going on around you at the time. Your diary must be typed in final draft form (see rubric) and must have at least seven entries, one of which is for a Sunday. Entries need not be on consecutive days and may even span a full year. Each day’s diary entry must be at least two paragraphs and 100 words long. The following things MUST be included somewhere in your diary entries: o A detailed description of your job o A detailed description of your home life o Descriptions of life, people, and events in your colony in 1750. Create one or more option projects to display or perform at the Colonial Tavern. These should relate to your colonial character in some way and may include colonial-era crafts, poster displays, costumes, props, models, sculptures, poems, songs, dances, dramatic performances, maps, demonstrations, drawings, paintings, colonial-era foods, or anything else you dream up and have approved by Mrs. Messner or Mr. Cutaiar. Come to the Colonial Tavern AS YOUR CHARACTER. Do the best you can for a costume. Be prepared to introduce yourself to other characters and guests and answer questions about your life in the colonies. You will be interviewed for a Global Citizens Colonial Tavern Video.
