Molecular Genetics Summative Assignment Genetics Debates One of the graded assignments for this Genetics Unit will be a series of debates which will focus on the use of various genetic engineering techniques and procedures. You will work in teams of one or two individuals. Each team will be given a topic based on a draw system. You will not be allowed to select the subject or position of your debate. The topics that will be debated are: i) Canada should allow the use of transgenic livestock to produce commercial products such as pharmaceuticals and to produce organs for xenotransplants. ii) Canada should establish a law which allows parents to use information that is discovered in the Human Genome Project in order to abort a fetus which has a specific genetic disorder this is currently incurable. iii) If a company sequences a section of the human genome, they should be allowed to patent that plant as their product and be allowed to hold all legal rights over its use. iv) Scientists, medical companies, governments, or even people that simply have enough money to pay for the procedure, should be allowed to clone humans for any reason. v) Humans have the ability to genetically modify our own species. We should allow genetics engineering of human sperm and egg cells so that we may select which traits our children have in order to increase their “fitness”. This includes cross species genetics. Referencing You must provide APA references for each of your posts. Student Name(s): CATEGORY Respect for Other Team (Comm.)
