Advanced Training Programme in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Description of the Programme
The programme provides for up to eight whole time trainees across a wide range of Community CAMHS
placements for years ST4-6. There are also opportunities for other specialist placements: The Highfield
Adolescent Unit, Berkshire Adolescent Unit, and Tier IV Neuropsychiatry outpatients. In addition to
these approved posts, there is the opportunity for a wide range of other experiences, particularly in
Forensic Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and on the Family Assessment and Safeguarding Service
(FASS), and working with refugee children and adolescents.
Distribution of Workplace Based Learning Posts
The programme is committed to the principles of workplace based learning and assessment. Work
based learning opportunities are provided that adhere to the Royal College’s postgraduate training
curriculum for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. These opportunities aim to provide trainees with
competencies and specific learning outcomes addressed to their individual needs.
Other Training Opportunities
The programme provides a very wide range of opportunities, including the specialities listed above.
Within the placements there may be different emphasis on the expertise of psychological therapies
utilised in each placement, however each placement offers the opportunity for individual work, family
work and therapy, cognitive behavioural assessments, and consultation and liaison with other services.
Interdisciplinary team working is at the core of the opportunities provided.
