Images of God Assignment
The Bible describes God in many different ways: God is light; God is joy; God is wisdom.
God is the beauty that fills the earth and the rock we stand on, the promises we live by
and the fire that purifies us.
God is breath
Your task:
1. Choose a word to describe an image of God
2. Create a visual
3. Find a related scripture reference
4. Write an explanation of the word (as it
describes God)
5. Reflect on why you chose that word.
God is the strong wind
that shapes the earth and sea
and makes the stars shine
to the farthest edge of the
heavens.
God is the breath of all living
creatures,
the breeze that stirs their
hearts,
that refreshes their souls,
and renews their spirits.
Details
Your word: can be one from the provided list below, one from the bible, or your own
(check it with Ms. Riglietti)
Your visual: should be created by you. It can be hand drawn, painted, or sketched. It can
be created on the computer or use electronic aids, but some form of creativity
has to be used (ex: make a collage using paint or Photoshop). You may not
simply choose an image from the Internet. Your image should fit on an 8.5x11
piece of paper.
Your scripture reference: must be written out and include the source (book, chapter,
and verse)
Your explanation: should be modelled after the sample shown in class. It must be at
least three sentences. (see “God is breath” above)
Your reflection: should be at least 100 words. It must include an explanation of why you
chose this specific image (does it have significance for you? why? do you see God
this way? Do you want to see God this way?)
The written components of this assignment should be neatly printed (no cursive) or
typed on a computer and attached to the visual. Please do not glue your writing to the
back of your image.
