In recent years, most of the nations in Asia have reached unprecedented wealth and stature as they have forged more mature politically, economically, and culturally. China has become a major economy in the world, achieving remarkable progresses, increasing its economic and cultural exchanges with all the countries of the world, and maintaining a steady development. Host city for the 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing is the cultural and economic centre of China. Especially in recent years, the art market in the Chinese capital has expanded rapidly with growing interest from abroad and more importantly, with strong growth in the domestic market. New art centers and communities have been growing everywhere in the city, bringing vitality and creativity to areas that used to be peripheral and now house a unique concentration of representative galleries from China as well as USA, UK, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Italy, Korea, Indonesia, Spain, France, The Netherlands … In 2004, the China International Gallery Exposition was launched in Beijing, on the purpose of "Internationalism, Professionalism and Futurism", exhibiting galleries. After 6 years, CIGE is considered the most established international art fair in Asia. Presenting artworks from the 5 continents and over 20 countries and areas, including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, Israel, Russia, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Syria, Kenya, Mexico, Cuba … CIGE 2009 has been the most internationally diverse modern and contemporary art fair to date in Asia. Facing the challenges and changes of the economical and political balance of our multi-polar and interdependent world, CIGE would like to position itself as a dynamic and unique platform, open to modern and contemporary artistic creations and visions from all over the world. CIGE 2010 Gallery Exhibition 13,000 square meter space on the first and second floor of the China World Trade Center Exhibition Hall will host around 80 selected outstanding galleries from all over the world, presenting a panorama of modern and contemporary art. CIGE 2010 welcomes and encourages any form of art expression, including photography, video, painting, sculptures, mixed media, installations, prints, digital and net art, textile, design… Understanding the relevance of technology and globalization on the economic infrastructure of the art world, CIGE 2010 SPECIAL PROJECTS invite galleries, artists, not-for-profit art organizations, museums, institutions, private collections, and visitors to reflect on our contemporary visual culture. 1) CIGE 2010 Special Project SOLO SHOWS MAPPING ASIA The 2nd floor of the Exhibition Hall of the China World Trade Center will host over 30 solo shows of young and emerging artists in Asia. The projects are realized in collaboration with art galleries. 2) CIGE 2010 Special Project INTERNATIONAL SHOWS CITYSCAPES On the second floor of the China World Trade Center, INTERNATIONAL SHOWS CITYSCAPES features artworks from 6 metropolises in the world looking at the presence, concentration, quality and diversity of their art galleries and art districts. The projects are realized in collaboration with art galleries and institutions. 3) CIGE 2010 Special Project ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE presents works realized partially or totally in Beijing by international artists. The projects are realized in collaboration with art galleries. 4) CIGE 2010 Special Project SUBLIMINALS As a gathering place at the entrance of the China World Trade Center and as an active promoter of contemporary cultural models, events and developments in art, SUBLIMINALS presents 9 not-for-sale projects realized by not-for-profit art organizations and cultural centers: entities that usually do not directly participate in art fairs, but definitely have a determinant relevance in the economy of the whole contemporary art system. 5) CIGE 2010 Special Project VIDEO LOOPS VIDEO LOOPS presents video, film and documentary screening programs in collaboration with art initiatives and organizations from Middle East, Africa and Latin America. 6) CIGE 2010 Special Project DESIGN DESIGN presents the works of internationally renowned designers. The projects are realized in collaboration with major design institutions and galleries. 7) CIGE 2010 Special Project INTERACTIONS CIGE 2010 establishes and develops collaborations, quality partnerships and strategic alliances with art fairs, art institutions and cultural centers in Asia and around the world. The interactions between the art fair and world wide institutions aim to stimulate dialogue and discussion, enhancing mutual relations and contacts, and contributing to enrich cross cultural knowledge with and within China. CIGE 2010 Media and VIPs CIGE 2009 cooperated with over 150 influential media at home and abroad, including Bloomberg TV, CNN, CNBC, CCTV, Reuters, Die Welt, EFE, El Pais. We are devoted to presenting the mature mode and internationalization of the art fair and building a broad promotion stage for exhibitors and artists. CIGE 2010 will assist media partners to conduct interviews and special features focusing on exhibitors and artists, alongside with internet resources to further promote artworks and galleries to guarantee our exhibitors benefit from high quality media exposure. Preface The CIGE 2010 Organizing Committee (referred as the Committee) has the sole rights to issue and actualize the Application Conditions and to modify and interpret the documents. All applicants and participants (referred as Exhibitor) shall fully comply with the Exhibitor Application Conditions. 2. Exhibition Dates and Venue Dates: April 22 - 25, 2010 (Preview April 21) Venue: China World Trade Center Exhibition Hall Address: No.1 Jian Guo Men Wai Avenue, Beijing, China The China World Trade Centre Exhibition Hall is approximately 13,000 m², which includes both the 1st floor (Area A, B) and 2nd floor (Area C). 3. Organization The Organizing Committee obtains the ultimate responsibility of organizing the CIGE. 4. a. Admission Requirements Requirements for Gallery Exhibition - Complete Application Form for Gallery Exhibition. - Continuous operation as a professional art gallery in a permanent exhibition space. - Exhibit and sell international modern and contemporary artworks. - The categories of the exhibits include painting, sculpture, photography, multimedia work, and Installation, etc. - Exhibition program which fulfills the objectives and interest of CIGE to realize a high-quality art event. b. Requirements for MAPPING ASIA - Young Asian Artist Solo Shows 1. Artwork Type: Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Multimedia Work, Design, and Installation etc. 2. Artists: Born after 1970, in a country in Asia or from Asian descent. 3. The works presented in MAPPING ASIA must be suitable within the technical dimension. 4. The application must be submitted by the artist’s representative or collaborative gallery. Technical Dimensions 1. Location: Area C, 2nd Floor of China World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 2. Booth Sizes: 42 m², 36 m², 27 m² 3. Panel Dimension: 2.8m (height) x 1m (width), 6cm thick, white color 4. Area C Ceiling Height: 3 m The Application Documents Must Include: 1. Complete Application form for MAPPING ASIA - Young Asian Artist Solo Shows 2. Artist biography 3. Photo(s) documentation of previous works or projects (one or two photos) 5. Application Deadline:November 30, 2009 Application received after the deadline will not be considered. 6. a. b. c. Confirmation of Participation All applicants shall guarantee the accuracy and objectivity of the information provided in the applications. After the review of the applications, the Committee will send booth confirmation to admitted exhibitors before November 30, 2009. The Committee shall have the rights to urge an exhibitor to make correction, or even revoke the exhibitor's right of participation without refund of the received booth rental if the exhibitor provides false information during the application process. After an exhibitor’s participation is confirmed, the exhibitor will be provided with an Exhibitor Manual containing detailed schedule, forms, specifications and other useful information, etc. 7. Allocation of Booths The booths are allocated by the Committee according to the theme and overall layout of the CIGE. The Committee only considers the preferred booth size listed in the application form as reference. Exhibitor does not have right to demand a particular booth location. The Committee has the rights to reallocate the booths and make the final decision. Exhibitor shall support the final allocation of the booths. On the acceptance of the final allocation, the full booth rental shall be paid within 7 days upon the receipt of the booth confirmation. Any objection to the allocation of the booths shall be submitted to the Committee giving the reasons in writing within 7 days upon the receipt of the booth confirmation. If there is no objection submitted within 7 days after the booth confirmation is received, the allocation will be considered accepted by the exhibitor. 1 8. a. b. Booth Rental As for booths of Gallery Exhibition, please refer to page 4 and page 5. As for booths of MAPPING ASIA - Young Asian Artist Solo Shows, please refer to page 9. 9. a. Terms of Payment: Full payment in one time On the acceptance of the final allocation, the full booth rental shall be paid within 7 days upon the receipt of the booth confirmation. The Committee will not reserve the booth for exhibitor who fails to pay the full booth rental before the deadline. If the Committee needs to reallocate a booth for an exhibitor due to the overall layout of the exhibition area after the booth rental is paid, the balance resulted from the adjustment shall be charged or refunded. The received booth rental is not refundable if an exhibitor withdraws from the CIGE due to his own reasons. b. c. 10. Entitlement to Use a Booth a. An exhibitor is entitled to use the booth after the full booth rental is received by the Committee. b. The Committee shall have the rights to urge an exhibitor to make correction or revoke an exhibitor's right of participation without refund of the received booth rental if the exhibitor sublets an entire or a part of a booth to another party and display unauthenticated exhibits or unregistered exhibits. The exhibitor shall be liable for all damages caused by above acts. If the aforementioned acts result in a loss of a third party, the exhibitor shall bear all the responsibility. c. Exhibitor shall guarantee to display authenticated exhibits. The Committee reserves the rights to obtain the complete details and related information of the artworks and retain the purpose of any form of non-profit advocacy rights. After the installation, the Committee will inspect the exhibitors' booths, and reserve the right to prohibit the exhibits which do not meet the requirements of CIGE. d. After an artwork is sold, the exhibitor shall pay the tax according to the Tax Law of the People's Republic of China. 11. Procedures for Booth Design and Usage a. Exhibitor shall make the booth design sketch in the Booth Design Form provided by the Committee and submit the form before February 15, 2010. The Committee will consider the submitted booth sketch by the exhibitor to be the final design. Fail to submit the booth sketch before the deadline will be regarded as forfeiting the right to design the booth, and such losses shall be the sole responsibility of the exhibitor, and the Committee will install the exhibitor’s booth according to standard booth design. b. Exhibitor shall submit the Additional Facility Order Form together with the Booth Design Form if additional facility is needed for booth set up. c. During the installation period, exhibitor is not allowed to adjust the booth arrangement based on the previous confirmed booth design. d. Exhibitor is not allowed to hang or attach gallery logo or promotional poster on the inside or outside panels without permission by the Committee. e. Apply spraying glue or silicone on the panel is prohibited, and drilling huge holes through the panel is also forbidden. Exhibitor will be charged for damaged panels if the diameter of the hole reaches 3 cm, the damage fee will be RMB 1,000 per panel. f. The standard panel is white painted, grey and black ones are offered but require extra fees to paint, please refer to Additional Facility Order Form to check the price list. Exhibitor will be charged for painting or writing on the panel without permission, the cost will be RMB 1,000 per panel. g. All materials used for decorating or covering of the booths must be non-flammable material. Exhibitor must comply with any instruction given by the relevant authority in order to avoid any risk of fire. h. Open wire is prohibited in the booth according to regulations of the Fire Department of Beijing and the exhibition hall. i. Exhibitor must not damage the booth floor for booth installation. Relevant compensation will be charged according to the damages. 12. Services a. Transportation: The Committee will assign a transportation company to provide artwork transportation and crate storage services. b. Accommodation: CIGE 2010 recommended hotel(s) near the exhibition hall will provide the most preferential price for all exhibitors. c. Booth Cleaning: The Committee shall assign a cleaning company to maintain all public spaces in a clean and tidy manner during the CIGE. d. Information Center, Coffee Area, Lounge, and VIP Lounge etc are available inside the exhibition hall. e. Business Services: The exhibition hall provides a business service center including fax, photocopy, and print, etc. f. Other Service: Airport reception, interpreters and labors will be provided with charges. 13. Catalogue The Committee will publish a bilingual catalogue to present the information and artworks of all exhibitors. The Organizing Committee reserves the rights to finalize the contents and design of the catalogue. a. The Committee will not publish the images in the catalogue if the images are not submitted according to the requirements listed in the Catalogue Registration Form. The exhibitor shall bear all damages due to the improper submission. Fail to submit the information and images before the deadline (January 15, 2010) shall be regarded as forfeiting the right to publish in the catalogue, and such losses shall be the sole responsibility of the exhibitor. 2 b. Exhibitors can provide reference design of the pages for the catalogue in PDF format. The Committee will consider it according to the overall design. 14. Publicity a. CIGE 2010 will establish an exclusive PR campaign under the support from over 150 media partners, including art, finance, luxury and fashion & life style media, etc. b. CIGE 2010 Advertising coverage is throughout Asia-Pacific, America, Europe and all active art markets around the world, and CIGE PR team will collaborate with Media partners to program in-depth CIGE feature reports on Magazines, Newspapers, Websites, TV and radios, in order to promote the fair among art professionals and the public. c. On-site interview room and news center will be set up inside the exhibition hall. d. Throughout the PR campaign, CIGE media team will arrange a series of interviews or PR activities for exhibitors and participating artists. 15. Intellectual Property Exhibitor shall guarantee all the exhibits on display or for sale and all the documents submitted do not violate the intellectual property rights of a third party. Exhibitor shall bear the responsibility for the losses caused by the violation. 16. Insurance Exhibitor must insure the exhibits and property which are in connection with the CIGE against all risks. If an exhibitor fails to insure the artworks, the Committee shall not bear any responsibility in case of direct or indirect losses and damages that the exhibitor suffers. 17. Security a. The Committee will provide 24-hour security service with closed circuit, monitors and other security installations during the CIGE. b. In order to ensure the full safety and security of the venue, any removal of artworks from the venue is prohibited during the installation and the opening of preview. Through the exhibition and dismantling period, any one who removes articles and artworks from the venue shall be accompanied with a voucher sealed by the Committee. c. Exhibitor shall be responsible for the safety of the exhibits and property and assign personnel to attend the booth all the time during opening hours. The security staffs shall be in charge of the safety during closing hours. d. Exhibitor shall not take additional artworks which will not be exhibited in the CIGE into the exhibition hall without the permission by the Committee. e. Exhibitor shall comply with the regulations regarding to the fire precautions, safety and security in the exhibition hall. Exhibitor who causes damages to the Committee or a third party by negligence or with the intention shall make the compensation. Exhibitor shall be responsible for all damage to persons and property caused by booth installation, furnishing, exhibits, or by his staffs or agents. 18. Force Majeure Under the circumstance of compelling reasons or in the case of force majeure including earthquake, catastrophic weather, war, strike, turbulence and epidemic etc, the Committee is entitled to postpone, extend, and shorten the event duration. The Committee is not liable for incurred costs exceed the booth rental. 19. Legal Effects a. Once the Application Form is submitted, an exhibitor shall be regarded as absolutely accepting the Exhibitor Application Conditions, which are legally binding between the exhibitor and the Committee (the photocopy and fax file has the same validity as the original Application Form). b. The CIGE 2010 Application Conditions are written in Chinese and English Versions. In case of any discrepancy, the Chinese version shall prevail. All the legal affairs during the execution of the conditions shall be governed by the current laws of the People's Republic of China. Any dispute shall be brought to the People's Court of Dongcheng District in Beijing, China.
