In the event of resale of the appliance or change of ownership, ensure that the instruction booklet is supplied with the appliance so that new owner is fully aware of all instructions and warnings present in this document. These warnings have been drawn up to ensure the safety of the user and others. Therefore read all instructions carefully prior to appliance installation and use. 1、 Disconnect the mains plug before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance operations (e.g. bulb replacement). 2、 This appliance has been designed to be used exclusively by adults. Ensure that children do not play near or with the appliance. 3、 All modifications to the electrical mains to enable appliance installation must be carried out by a qualified technician. 4、 Do not use an extension cord. On completion of installation, check that the appliance is not standing on the power cable. 5、 Domestic refrigerators and/or freezers are designed exclusively to store and/or freeze foodstuffs. 6、 During normal operation, the condenser and compressor, located at the rear of the appliance can reach high temperatures. Ensure that installation is carried out according to the instructions contained in this booklet. Insufficient ventilation will impair operation and damage the appliance. Never cover or obstruct the ventilation slats on the appliance. 7、 Never allow children to play with the appliance. Children must never be allowed to sit on the drawers or hang on the appliance doors. 8、 If the appliance is transported in a horizontal position, the oil in the compressor may flow into the refrigerant circuit. 9、 Leave the appliance standing vertically for at least two hours before switching it on, to ensure that oil flows back into the compressor. 10、 All refrigerators and freezers have surfaces that are subject to the formation of frost. 11、 Depending on the model, this frost can be removed automatically. (Automatic defrosting) or manually when necessary. Never attempt to remove frost with sharp objects as this may damage the evaporator and impair efficient appliance operation. Let the frost thaw naturally; never use hot water. 12、 Never put sparkling drinks or bottles of water in the low temperature compartments (freezer/cooler) as they can explode. 13、 We strongly advise against putting hot liquids or food in the refrigerator or filling ridded containers to the maximum capacity. 14、 Never carry out any modifications to your appliance. 15、 Never attempt to repair the appliance alone. Repairs carried out by unqualified persons can cause serious damage; always contact your nearest Service Center and use original spare parts only. 16、 The refrigerant and insulation in this appliance do not contain any gases 2 harmful to the ozone or which contribute to the greenhouse effect. However, disposal must be carried out in compliance with the relative standards regarding protection of the environment. 17、 Never use the base, drawers, doors etc. to stand on or as supports. Warning: Keep ventilation openings in the appliance enclosure or in the built-in structure clear of obstruction. DANGER: Before you throw away your old refrigerator or freezer: Take off the doors. Leave the shelves in place so that children may not easily climb inside. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. 3 INSTALLATION How to Install Install efrigerator in a convenient location away from extreme heat and cold. Allow sufficient clearance between the refrigerator and side wall so the door can open fully and to minimize noise. This refrigerator is not designed for a recessed installation. 5cm 5cm Leveling Level the refrigerator so that it rests solidly on the floor without rocking. Keep away from heat or direct sun light Place your refrigerator away from any heat source and out of the direct sunlight. High surrounding temperature will lower cooling efficiency and increase your electricity bill. Keep away from water and moisture Place the refrigerator in an area with low moisture. Splashing water or a high moisture area may cause a short circuit or rusting. Note: Wait 3-5 minutes before restarting if you unplug the refrigerator. Actual location and appearance of the parts depends on the model of refrigerator. How To Operate Before use 1. 2. 3. 4. Wipe the inside of the refrigerator to ensure it is completely clean. Plug the power cord into an outlet. There many be a smell of plastic when you initially open the door. This is not unusual. Set the temperature control dial to “Coldest” and run for 2-3 hours before placing any food in the refrigerator. Only place food in when the refrigerator has cooled sufficiently. Temperature control C O O L OFF You can control the inside temperature by turning the thermostat dial. Turning towards “Coldest” mean greater cooling power, turning towards “OFF” mean less cooling power. To make ice cubes in the freezer compartment, set the dial to“Coldest”. The dial does not have to be set exactly at the end, but can be any place in between. C O LD ES T 5 Temperature control How to make ice cubes 1. Fill tray 3/4 full with water to allow expansion during freezing. 2. Place the ice tray in the freezer. How to take the ice cubes out When the ice is made, grasp each end of the ice tray and twist it gently. Care Of Your Refrigerator Please clean your refrigerator regularly to keep food fresh and safe. How to make ice cubes To maintain the most efficient operation of the refrigerator with the minimum electrical energy consumption, defrost the freezer compartment when the frost is about 5 mm (1/4 inch)thick. Set the temperature control to off. Drain pan must be placed directly beneath the freezer to contain melting water. Keep the door open to speed up defrosting. Empty water from the drain pan as required. How to store food properly 1. Allow warm food to cool before storing in the refrigerator to prevent the effect of odor on other foods. 2. Maintain space between food to allow cold air to circulate sufficiently inside the refrigerator. 3. For better taste do not refreeze food once defrosted completely. 4. For longer periods of storage. a label with the food name and date of purchase can be useful. 5. Do not store food for longer than the recommended time. Recommended period of refrigeration For the best taste please refer to the following recommended refrigeration period table. Beef 2-3 days pork 3-4 days Poultry 1-2days Fish 2-3 days Ham, Sausage 3-4 days 6 Bean curd 1 days How To Clean Cleaners Never use harsh, abrasive cleaners, heavy-duty cleaners, or solvents on any surface. Exterior Wipe with damp, sudsy cloth, rinse and dry. For stubborn stains and for periodic waxing, use silicon wax. Freezer compartment First defrost the freezer. Do not scrape with any sharp tools. After defrosting is complete, wash with warm, sudsy water. The finishing touch Replace all parts and reset the temperature control knob to the desired temperature. Refrigerator section Wash shelves, drawers and other removable parts with warm sudsy water, rinse and dry. Wash interior with backing soda(3 table sway to one quart of water) or warm sudsy water. Magnetic door seals Wash with warm sudsy water. When You have Problem Power failure If you know when the power will go out set the temperature control knobs at higher cooling position 1-2 hour ahead. Do not open doors frequently during the power failure. Even with the unexpected power failure if you do not open the doors your refrigerator will keep proper temperature for about 2-3 hours in refrigerator section and 1-2 hours in freezer section. When not using refrigerator for a long time 1. Doscpmmect the power cord and clean the inside of the refrigerator. 2. Leave the doors open for 2-3 days to dry the inside of the refrigerator completely. Relocation of refrigerator 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Disconnect the power cord. Remove water from the drain pan. Take food out of the refrigerator compartment. Fasten the doors with tape while moving to prevent them from opening. For safety, use 2 people to carry the refrigerator. For Your Safety 1. Do not connect multiple appliances to one outlet. It could cause a fire. 2. To avoid the possibility of electrical shock, make sure the refrigerator is grounded properly by using a 3- prong plug. 7 3. Do not place hot objects, such as pots or pans, on top of the refrigerator. Objects over 60 C could discolor the cabinet. 4. Be careful not to place the power cord underneath of the refrigerator or other heavy objects. Damage to the power cord could cause a fire. 5. Your refrigerator is not designed for medical purpose. Do not store medicine or medical equipment in this refrigerator. 6. Do not store volatile materials in the refrigerator. Benzine 7. Do not use flammable sprays near the refrigerator. Electrical spark may cause explosion. 8. Do not hang on the refrigerator doors. 9. Do not open the refrigerator door or unplug the power cord when there is a gas leakage in the house. Electrical spark by opening the door or unplugging the power cord can cause fire. When there is a gas leakage, open the windows and vent completely before use of refrigerator. 10. When cleaning the refrigerator do not splash 8 Ethylene water directly to the refrigerator. Follow the cleaning instructions described in this manual. 11. If you unplug the power cord please wait at least minutes before plugging in again. Otherwise it could damage your refrigerator. Waot for 5 minutes Before You Call For Service Before you call for service please check the table below. Your problem could be easily corrected. if you still need service please contact the store where you purchased or the nearest GE service center. When Check If... Not Cooling Check If power supply cord is unplugged. Check If it is a power failure. Check the circuit breaker. Not enough Cooling Check If temperature control knob is in the proper position. Check If there is heat source nearby or direct sunlight. Check If warm food was put in the refrigerator or the door was opened too often. Check If there is too much food in the refrigerator. Noise Check If t he floor is level. Check If too close to the wall. Sweat on refrigerator During very humid weather, such as rainy season, there may be sweat on a refrigerator cabinet. It is comparable to the sweat on a glass of ice water. This is not a functional problem with the refrigerator. Wipe it off with a dry towel. Sweat inside of refrigerator Check If the door was opened too often or if the door was left open. Check If you put warm food in the refrigerator. 9 HOW TO DISPOSE OF THE PACKING MATERIAL The packing material is recyclable. The following procedure is recommended: - dispose of paper, card and carton in the relative containers; - dispose of plastics in the relative containers. - If you have no recycling bins in your area then you can put this material in the ordinary bins and/or take it to the appropriate collection centers. WEE DISPOSAL:Do not dispose this product as unsorted municipal waste. Collection of such waste separately for special treatment is necessary. Meaning of crossed-out wheeled dustbin: Do not dispose of electrical appliances as unsorted municipal waste, use separate collection facilities. Contact you local government for information regarding the collection systems available. If electrical appliances are disposed of in landfills or dumps, hazardous substances can leak into the groundwater and get into the food chain, damaging your health and well-being. 10
