His principal training posts have been held at Barts, Charing Cross, Hammersmith, Queen Charlottes and Chelsea Hospital for Women. Between 1972 and 1973 he was a Consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica. John was Lecturer at Westminster Hospital and Medical School from 1973 to 1977. He held the post of Consultant Obstetrician-Gynaecologist at Mayday University Hospital from 1977 to 1995 and was Medical Director from 1996 to 1998. In addition, John has been Examiner for the following: Examiner for Royal College of Midwives; Examiner for MB - University of London; Examiner for MB and DM - University of the West Indies; Examiner for MRCOG - Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Dr Katherine Coyne Dr Coyne is a Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV and has been at the Homerton for 3 years. She has a special interest in young people and is the department lead for safeguarding children and adults. Dr Coyne is hoping to collaborate with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on more research into how intimate partner violence affects the lives of women living with HIV in the UK. Phillip Harniess Phill works as a Highly Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist based at Hackney Ark and one day/week on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. He trained at the University of East Anglia to gain a Physiotherapy BSc. He is Bobath trained (neurodevelopmental therapy) and is currently undertaking MSc in Neurorehabilitation at Brunel University. Phill has worked as a physiotherapist for over 10 years with the last 3 years in Hackney. His Clinical Special interests are neonates; early neurodevelopment and early intervention; spasticity management and postural management. Jacqueline Gordon Jacqueline works as a Highly Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapist at the Hackney Ark. Her qualifications are: MA (Hons) General Arts Edinburgh; Post Graduate Degree in Occupational Therapy (LHMC); Diploma in Access to the Built Environment; Bobath (Neurodevelopmental therapy) Trained, including advanced Infant Bobath course. Jacqueline has a Clinical Special interest in neonates and early intervention, and is currently working in Hackney Ark and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/SCBU one day a week. Jacqueline is also involved with the ‘Hit Squad’ part of the Short Breaks Team, looking at access for all to mainstream services/activities. Dr Maryam Parisaei Dr Parisaei is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, and Clinical Lead for Labour Ward and Obstetrics Risk Management. 1 Dr Paul Fleming Dr Fleming studied Medicine at Trinity College Dublin and qualified in 2000. He initially trained in Neonatology at The National Maternity and The Rotunda Hospitals Dublin. In 2007 he spent one year as a Clinical Fellow at the Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne and returned to Homerton University Hospital London in 2008 to complete specialist training. Having completed clinical training, he worked for 2 years as a Research Fellow working for Prof Costeloe at The Blizard Institute of Cell and Molecular Science, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. In June 2012 he was appointed as a Consultant Neonatologist with a Special Interest in Clinical Research at Homerton University Hospital. His research interest is in patterns of early colonisation and how this may impact on subsequent disease processes in preterm babies. Dr Piero Reynolds Dr Reynolds trained at Guys and St Thomas’ Medical and Dental School from 1997 to 2002. He completed specialist training in General Medicine and Rheumatology in 2009 and worked as a Rheumatologist at the Royal London Hospital from 2009 to 2010. Dr Reynolds has worked in Rheumatology and General Medicine at Homerton University Hospital from 2010 to the present. Jenny Anthony Jenny Anthony has worked as a Dermatology Nurse Practitioner for the past 9 years. She runs nurse led clinics for patients with inflammatory skin diseases and is an independent non-medical prescriber. Her first experience of clinical research was in 2001, participating in a six month phase 2 multi-centre European trial of a new subcutaneous monoclonal antibody treatment for psoriasis. Currently she is site coordinator for two departmental research studies; one investigating the impact of treatment of psoriasis with adalimumab on quality of life, and additionally the British Association of Dermatologists Biologic Interventions Register (BADBIR), a UK and Eire observational study, which seeks to assess the long-term safety of biologic treatments for psoriasis. Dr Eleanor Wood Dr Wood is a Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist; Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry; Director of Medical Education; Foundation Training Programme Director FY2; Endoscopy Teaching & Training Lead ; Undergraduate MET3A (year 3) Lead; and Simulation & Clinical Skills Lead (until Sept 2012). Dr Waheeda Pagarkar Dr Pagarkar is a Consultant in Audiovestibular Medicine and specialises in Paediatrics. She has been in post at the Hackney Ark (and earlier at the Donald Winnicott Centre) for 6 years. She also works at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital. Her basic degree is in Paediatrics following which she did her Masters in Audiovestibular Medicine (AVM) and trained in the London Deanery as an AVM Consultant. Dr Pagarkar’s research interests include aetiology of childhood hearing loss, genetic hearing loss and paediatric vestibular assessment. Nancy Hallett Nancy Hallett has been Chief Executive of Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 1999, having been a director at the Trust since 1993. She was awarded an OBE in 2004 for services to health in Hackney. 2
