What is Renal Dysplasia (RD) in dogs? It is a serious and life-threatening genetic
condition. The kidneys fail to develop properly in the womb. Severe cases (an estimated
3%-5% of single or double carriers of the mutation) may have shortened life-spans and
end stage renal failure at any age. Who Should Test?As this is a genetic disease, by
testing their TTs, breeders can collectively work towards the goal of reducing or
eliminating the condition from the TT population. Owners suspecting RD in their TTs or
pedigrees should also test.
