Coastal Conservation League Chief Operating Officer The Coastal Conservation League seeks to employ an experienced Chief Operating Officer who will work with the Executive Director to develop a strategic agenda for the organization, including programs, finance and administration. Reports to the Executive Director Supervises Programs, Administration and GrowFood Carolina Qualified candidates will demonstrate: Excellent writing and public speaking abilities Experience in organizational management Team-oriented leadership and mentoring skills Experience in financial management, reporting and budgeting Excellent analytical skills Experience working on environmental conservation issues Excellent diplomatic and negotiation skills Minimum five years experience in conservation, management and communications Minimum five years experience with responsibility for financial planning and oversight Post-graduate degree desirable Principle Responsibilities: I. Oversee all Programs in the areas of land and community; air, water and public health; food and agriculture; and energy and climate, along with regional offices on the north and south coasts and legislative office in Columbia; work with the Director of Human Resources to oversee administrative functions; and provide oversight for GrowFood Carolina, CCL’s local food hub; II. Coordinate with program directors to produce strategic plans and annual work plans, and assist with all aspects of implementation of these plans III. Work with the Director of Finance and Executive Director as well as individual departments to develop multi-year budgets and provide detailed financial reports IV. Serve as liaison with the executive director and the board V. Assist the Executive Director and serve as organization’s spokesperson as needed Duties to include: Develop strategic plans and evaluation metrics for CCL programs Conduct annual reviews of staff members who report to this position Work with program directors on project implementation Write and/or edit opinion-editorials and other written commentary on projects, especially land use, transportation and cruise ships Work with board, executive director and program directors to establish overall strategic organizational direction and goals Work with board and staff to develop CCL communications program The ideal candidate will be an energetic person with strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically and to develop innovative methods for approaching different issues and constituencies. Must be an excellent public speaker who is comfortable with various audiences, including board members, major donors, staff and community members.
